What the Hell is the Matter
with Jimmy Breslin? I guess he's upset because he got more letters chiding him for writing about dogs (which he obviously doesn't like) than about his remarks concerning the war. (Blogger is screwing up again by not letting me link the entire URL so you'll have to access it from the homepage.)
I am sure he was trying to be cute about the idea of kicking a dog in front of a subway train if he urinates. If Breslin keeps it up, somebody might kick HIM in front of a moving subway train for pissing on the love and devotion people have for their dogs and vice versa.
But that doesn't mean his column today is worthless:
"I did notice a newspaper under my foot that had George Bush's heroic picture in a flight suit on an aircraft carrier. Americans and thousands and thousands of Iraqi civilians died and he poses as a hero.
"But you had to admire him for putting on a pilot's suit and playing sky hero. You look at that picture. Then tell me if you ever heard of anybody with as powerful a resistance to shame as Bush. During the Vietnam War, he was in the Texas Air National Guard and lost interest in it and went to work as a political aide to a friend of his father's who was running for office in Alabama. Then he left for graduate school. Not a shot fired."
Unfortunately, Breslin goes back to his rant about dogs and urine. He then makes the claim dogs have no souls.
Dogs do have souls, like it or not. Bush does not.
