This isn't a sign of desperation, is it? If he panders to the moderates and even liberals, he alienates the conservatives, but if he goes for the conservatives, he alienates everybody else.
The Austrian Oak could be sawed in half as a result and appeal to nobody, which is great news for Bustamante and Davis.
