Postponement
of a case involving the recall by a San Jose court:
"A three-judge panel in San Jose federal court, attempting to avert potential voting-rights violations while keeing the Oct. 7 recall on schedule, gave the U.S. Justice Department one more week to decide if changes in polling places and placing Proposition 54 on the ballot would disenfranchise minority voters in Monterey County."
