Robert Reich
has an excellent piece at AmPro about what is turning into a "permanent election" system in our country.
Spearheaded by the far right, a group that is hostile to democracy, these fascists have made every effort to subvert the will of the people. They started on Clinton immediately following his election in 1992, through the sham impeachment, through the rigging of the voting system (in Reich's words, believe it or not) in 2000, to the current recall mess in California.
All of it is aimed at Democrats, Democrats who have the unmitigated gall to actually win elections. Whoever gets the nomination in 2004, that Democrat will be put through the meat grinder, and we need somebody who is best able to survive it. For if that person should actually win over Bush, he or she will be ruthlessly and relentlessly hounded.
