We Know Gray Davis

is right when he claimed the GOP is out to subvert democracy, but Timothy Noah brings it up again.

It should be brought up time and time and time again. Nobody has to be a "conspiracy theorist" to see what is plain before his or her eyes. It's a matter of getting past denial. Noah still has denial problems in parts of his piece. For example, he blames the Electoral College for Gore's "defeat," when in fact it was the corrupt USSC which meddled into something it had no business getting into in the first place.

And OF COURSE the recall is anti-democratic because anti-democratic forces have tried to usurp a sitting governor who was just re-elected and committed absolutely no wrongdoing. The tool of a recall appears to be "democratic," but it is being used for truly rotten undemocratic, and yes, even fascistic purposes.

Just as the courts were abused in Bush v. Gore, just as the impeachment provision was abused in Bill Clinton's case.

And no, Tim, there's no doubt it. No yes-and-nos, no maybes. ALL of Davis's claims are true. ALL of them.

The fascists will not stop until people wake up to what is happening. What Noah and many others are in denial about is how the character of the GOP has radically--RADICALLY--changed since it won control of Congress in 1994. Without acknowledging this fact, an understanding of what is happening with redistricting and so forth is impossible.
