This story is something else:

Arianna Masten was looking forward to a weekend of waterskiing at Lake Tahoe, Chuck E. Cheese and a ride on the slingshot at Reno's Grand Sierra Resort.

But as the van the 10-year-old was riding in from West Covina, Calif., to Northern Nevada swerved and began to tilt to the passenger side, Arianna risked her life to save her 2-year-old brother, Matthew.

She said the accident was a slow-motion blur of sparks and screams. At the end of it, her left arm was severed from the elbow down.

Philanthropist Brooke Astor, 104, has been moved to a hospital where she is doing better.

As noted below, she is at the center of a bitter fight because allegedly her 82-year-old son was terrified his mother would outlive him, and therefore he did whatever he could to try and speed her death along.

People who belong to Mensa are just like you and me, only more so.

Why in the world an organization exists which depends on members scoring high on I.Q. tests is a mystery.

"Intelligence" isn't something that can actually be quantified. Besides, those tests aren't designed to measure "intelligence" as they are helping to spot people who need special education services.

A memorial service for Kathy Augustine was held in Carson City yesterday.

Her funeral was held in Las Vegas several days ago.
