Why is It

the so-called "left" of the nutroots hates Joe Lieberman so much?

I am not sure anti-Semitism is at the core of it, although if one reads the likes of the discussion board Democratic Underground (where a lot of bloggers got their "start"), there is a hell of a lot of vitriol spewed at Israel, and I am not referring to the current situation, either. But the hatred is vile and completely misplaced.

Hell, over where I used to post years ago, at Salon's "Table Talk" discussion board, there is a thread in the "White House" folder deriding Democrats these idiots regard as "pink tutus." They think it's cute, but what they are doing is extremely destructive. In fact, stuff like that pisses me off because I believe they are being disloyal to the idea of the Democratic Party being the "big tent" party. They want to narrow the membership to just those who toe the line to their idea of what "progressive" means. Nobody else need apply.

It would be instructive for people like Wittmann to actually take a look at DU, which is somewhat easier to navigate than the unwieldy Daily Kos (that site is a user-unfriendly atrocity that I seldom visit anymore), for example, and he would know where this horseshit originates in the blogosphere. It just ain't confined to hatred for Joe Lieberman, either. There is hatred for Biden, there's hatred for Hillary Clinton, there's hatred for Dianne Feinstein, and so on. Because the board heavily censors opposing viewpoints, the range of discussion is from A to A- and therefore the opinions are completely unrepresentative of the party, much less the voting public. However, you will find all of the talking points from this site repeated ad nauseum throughout the blogosphere. Although the board bills itself as "Democratic," it is nothing of the sort, and not just because of its heavy censorship. It is virulently anti-Democratic Party, at least of anybody who isn't Mouthzilla or Feingold or whoever the political flavor of the month happens to be.

The anti-Democratic Party rhetoric is poison, and a few of the high-profile bloggers, no doubt wanting even more of a profile and possibly making money in the process, think spewing this bullshit is going to help them save the party. It won't. Unlike the vast majority of these bloggers, I actually have seen this shit happen before, during the 1960s, the era most of them want to bring back for some goddamned reason, and the Democratic Party has NEVER recovered from the destructive antics of the antiwar left. Back then, the antiwar faction didn't know they were doing much damage to the Democrats. Now, though, there's no excuse.
