Obama listens to a question from somebody in the audience. It was funny to me that he kept looking over where I was because I had a camcorder. I swear he was looking more my way (and I was almost the only person there in that part of the building--not far from the podium--who had a camcorder) than he was looking at the professionals! So I got some great video of him, and if and when I get a firewire attachment, I'll try to upload this speech and the Bill Clinton speech of yesterday.
There were literally thousands of people in Carson City, let alone a bunch in Reno today to hear Obama speak. When I get some local reports, I will link them here.
I admit he gives a decent speech and should have been a motivational speaker (though he's pretty damned low-key in his style). I am not sure he swayed that many undecideds tonight. In any case, I goddamned near froze to death outside waiting for the doors to open, which they did right before seven o'clock. Obama didn't speak until well after eight. He took a few questions from the audience, too.
Since tomorrow is MLK's birthday (though not the holiday) and mine as well, Obama decided to mention the civil rights leader. King, not myself.
Barack is channeling somebody here.
Tonight at the Carson City Community Center, Barack Obama, aka The Audacity of Hype, spoke to a packed, and I do mean PACKED house. About 1,200 people filled the first gym, another capacity crowd filled the overflow area (and these people were unfortunate enough to not be able actually watch him give the speech though he made a brief appearance there in person), and some 200 people were outside listening to the speech.
Yours truly got some good shots and some wonderful video of his speech. I got lucky enough to shake his hand when he finished, but since he was not able to sign a lot of autographs, mostly books and t-shirts, I'll just have to go on eBay to get it.
