Barack Obama, Carson City, January 14, 2008. [Updated.]

From my Nevada caucus video archives is Barack Obama's speech and town hall meeting held at the Carson City Community Center on January 14, 2008, just a few days before the Nevada caucus. While there is a little bit of camera jumble because I was taking still pictures, there is a lot of good footage of the senator as he noticed I had a camcorder. From part 2 on this is evident, and I thought it was rather funny he kept looking over my way. The media cameras were further over. Almost all of the event is complete; I had it on two tapes, but I accidentally erased the second tape with about the last five minutes on it. The speech, however, is complete.

There were about 4,000 people total at the event. I was in the main room where he spoke. Obama said 1,000 were in the overflow room, and 200 people were outside and never got in. He said he met with them before coming into the main room.

Edit 1: The computer froze up on me overnight, so I think there might be trouble with the first part, or that the first part is actually the second part or some damned thing. I had the same problem with the Bill Clinton Medford, Oregon, clips. I couldn't get the third part to upload properly.

Edit 2: The first three clips are the same thing, so I will upload the clips 2 and 3 again on YouTube. The duplication was a result of the computer "crashing" last night.

Campaign Notes.

There is something seriously wrong with a system where the winner of caucuses winds up with fewer delegates than the loser.

Not only are the media trying to force Clinton out of the presidential race, now they are trying to force her out of the Senate.

Even Paul Krugman has fallen for the "Obama is the nominee" bullshit.

John Edwards

had more delegates in Washoe County from the caucuses than he got from Clark County.

Obama

has won only one caucus so far, yet the media are all gaga because they wrongly say his run is "historic." It isn't; Jesse Jackson won 11--count 'em eleven--primaries back in 1988.

What Jackson didn't have is a ton of hype surrounding his run.

Maybe they confuse "historic" with "hysterics." Obama always whines when he doesn't win a state, and he's bellyaching about the Nevada caucuses.

The Clinton campaign has also complained.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nevada Democratic Chair Jill Derby is sick of the whole goddamned thing.

Barack, give it the hell up.

This is as bogus as the NH "investigation" of "fraud."

bicker over the final delegate count in Nevada, but if the Edwards supporters were smart, they would have volunteered to become delegates to their county and state conventions regardless if he had viability in their individual precincts.

Hi All, it was really intereating. Our group came out with the best deal we could get for the time being. I was in Sparks precinct 6108. There were less than 100 people. We had 7 Kucinich (staunchly so) and 8 Edwards people (staunchly so). Worked out the best we could. Closed togeher to form undecided. We got 2 delegates, so we each took one, and will go to the next level with one uncommitted delegate where we hope to meet up with other uncommitted. I have to look up to see if we can do that again at the next level if we dont have enough Kucinich votes to be viable again. We did have a problem that we are going to protest. The rules say if a person does not live in the precinct they cannot caucus at that precinct. Since registration was allowed at the last minute, anyone who actually lived in the precinct could register and vote legally. I am 67, blind in one eye, cant see out of the other. I received a precinct card with my correct present address, but the wrong precinct which I knew was the wrong precinct. It was in Reno. I landed at my correct precinct. I registered a change of address at the last minute legally. We had several people come in who said they didnt know where to caucus, They were allowed to stay. None of these lost souls were from Richardson, Gravel, Biden, Dodd, Edwards or Kucinich. They were from Clinton and Obama. So we are protesting that. We want a review of the addresses given to the registrar, and if the addresses were wrong, those votes should be discounted. It really is up to the voter to get themselves to the correct precinct. And if you are confused, start early enough to get it straightened out before caucus. If we can get the votes discounted, it wont change our delegate count, but will change the mathematical numbers. There was a discrepancy on the first ballot. AND guess who turned in more votes to the chair? Obama and Clinton. When we had the body count, that is when the discrepancy came up. So, they had to recount the individual groups to tally with the body count. We had a real crackerjack in our group. He was onto all this in a flash. He is running for county commissioner. I gather he has quite a rep around town for being outspoken. His name is Gary Schmitt. Vote for him. County Commissioner. The othe point of order we are protesting., All of the undecided or uncommitted participants objected to the 15% viability. There were less than a hundred people there, and some of them may not have belonged there according to written rules.
How did it go in your precincts and did you notice any of this type of bending of rules? I heard that in precinct 8209 they let people leave and instead of doing a body count, they counted ballots. We found our discrepancy in the body count over the tallies turned in by the groups. Paperwork and ballots werent guarded well in our precinct and one Obama supporter complained because all our registration info was left outside unguarded while we were balloting. It could have walked away. There would have been no records left. Keep in mind the NH recount is turning up discrepancies in most precincts. Check in please. Hope you all had a great time. We had two great groups, Kucinich and Edwards. We told the lobbyists for the other groups to just get lost. We were trying to get ourselves viable in some way and we did. HOORAY

with more delegates, 13, to Clinton's 12, because of the rigging the caucuses in a proportional manner or some goddamned thing.

It won't matter in the end because he won't win the nomination.

Nevada Caucus.

Obama was here with wife Michelle early in the day today at UNR. I talked with somebody at the Clinton speech who was at the Obama event, and she said she thought there were about 300 there.

That seems kind of low, but I'll find out soon enough from the local media.

What I'd like to know is if Obama actually thinks he has the black vote locked up in SC so much that he can stick his foot in it time and time again, especially with regard to his positive remarks about Ronald Reagan.

Edwards, following his stump speech in Reno last night, denounced the UNITE HERE ad trashing Hillary Clinton:

I Am Dead Tired, Readers,

absolutely dead tired. After a full day of work I headed down to the Grand Sierra Resort to take in Hillary Clinton's final speech in Reno (at least of the caucus). I had planned to volunteer at the Edwards headquarters tonight, but I don't think I am going to make it.

The crowd at the resort was packed. The speech was held in the Silver State Pavilion, the same room where John Edwards spoke day before yesterday. Unfortunately for many, there were no chairs, only bleachers for a select few on the sides of the room. When Hillary spoke, one of the people in the audience literally fainted near where she was. Clinton was very concerned about the person and paused somewhat until the person was okay.

A similar thing happened to my landlord at our dictator's speech at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center back in June of 2004. The honor guard and Secret Service were very helpful to him, giving him water to hydrate himself. After a while, he was fine and sat down on the cold floor.

I don't know what in the hell is the matter with my camera and Hillary Clinton. I had some wonderful pictures of her which I posted on this blog when she was in Fernley back in November, but the last two times I have seen her, the pictures have turned out shit. I had beautiful pictures of John Edwards last night, of Barack Obama Monday night, and of her husband last Sunday, but I'll be goddamned if I can figure out why the Hillary pictures have been blurred. I think my camera may have turned sexist.

A couple of the pictures I took of her night before last made her look downright haggard, and I began thinking of the picture posted on the Drudge Report (and posted here) which made her look like hell wasn't photoshopped at all. No doubt all of the travel and stress have really done a number on her.

Yet she doesn't look like that in person. Go figure.

I did videotape her speech, and I was able to get her most of the time. The video, when I could focus on her, was wonderful. After her speech, she made the rounds of posing for pictures and signing autographs. She signed my copy of Living History. Wesley Clark was also there and introduced her to the crowd of about 1,500.

Pictures of John Edwards Tonight.

This little girl was trying to get John Edwards' attention all during the speech. She wanted to give him a cheese stick, which she finally did afterwards.



I like this shot. I told Edwards following his remarks I loved the new ad about the media. He smiled. That is the best ad of the campaign, bar none.






Some young supporters were mesmerized over what he was saying. The little girl on the right gave Edwards a cheese stick after he finished with his remarks.

Edwards is seen greeting an enthusiastic crowd at Reno's Carpenters Union Hall tonight. He was great, as always. He was scheduled to be at Elko later this evening.

John Edwards

made the final Reno appearance before Caucus Day at Carpenters Union Hall on Terminal Way. He spoke for a few minutes covering a few issues, including health care and Iraq, and then he made a pitch for all of us--and it was a packed house--to caucus for him Saturday.

He signed my copy of his book Four Trials. This is the sixth autograph of his I've got.

I was going to videotape his remarks, but my goddamned camcorder's battery died. I left the button on "play" for some strange reason.

Tomorrow I will be heading up to TMCC right after work to see Hillary Clinton for the last time this time around.
