A Writing Career is Not in the Works

for Lisa Jo Druck. Not only were her television appearances disastrous, her book isn't selling for crap.

In a few weeks, it will be in the bargain bin, but I doubt booksellers will be able to give the damned thing away.

Her "tell-all" book which trashed Elizabeth Edwards when she was not in a position to defend herself sold an impressive 6,000 copies.

Considering this twerp had no compunction about sleeping with a married public figure, she can be safely called a sociopath.

I doubt she will return to the rock from which she came, but I can always dream.

Outrage certainly isn't a partisan affair (no pun intended).

There is NO excuse whatsoever for a single person (or married private figure) to actively pursue a married public figure. If anything, the person is even MORE culpable than the married party because the person actively seeks a relationship with somebody the whole world knows is married.

Druck only makes Edwards look worse because the world will wonder what in the HELL he ever saw in somebody so cold hearted she would pursue a relationship with somebody obviously stressed out in his marriage thanks to major health crises.

Can't believe anybody can possibly be sympathetic to Lisa Jo Druck now. To trash somebody now that she is dead and can't respond is the ultimate in tackiness.

There is no regard for the kids involved. It's all about her.

Since There Was No Case Against John Edwards to Begin With,

it's no surprise he will not be retried for being a shitty husband:

Federal prosecutors have moved to drop all charges against John Edwards after his corruption trial ended last month in a deadlocked jury.

A jury in North Carolina acquitted the former presidential candidate last month on one count of accepting illegal campaign contributions. It deadlocked on five other felony counts, resulting in a mistrial on those charges.

A U.S. Justice Department statement on Wednesday said prosecutors will not seek to retry Edwards on the five unresolved counts.

"The Evidence Wasn't There"

Of course it wasn't there because the Edwards trial wasn't about any evidence at all. It was a means to shame him to marginalize him from politics for good and at the same time tarnish the Democratic Party name.

Not that the party label hasn't already been tarnished by Obama's destructive neoliberal policies.

Three of the Edwards trial jurors spoke about the case. Incredibly, two of them thought he was "guilty" of something.

The defense rested in the bullshit case against John Edwards without calling the embattled defendant or the sociopath he took up with behind Elizabeth's back:

John Edwards' defense team rested Wednesday without calling the two-time Democratic presidential candidate or his one-time mistress to the witness stand, a sign of confidence after presenting little more than two days of testimony and evidence.

The defense had called a series of witnesses aimed at shifting the jury's focus from the lurid details of a political sex scandal to the legal question of whether the Edwards' actions violated federal campaign finance laws.

Prosecutors spent nearly three weeks trying to convince a jury that Edwards masterminded a conspiracy to use nearly $1 million secretly provided by two wealthy donors to help hide his pregnant mistress, Rielle Hunter, as he sought the White House in 2008.

It was a bunch of shit, but somebody wanted to shame Edwards so that he could never be a political figure ever again.

Obituaries: Kennedy conspiracy vultures have another body to pick apart: Mary Richardson Kennedy, 52, ex-wife of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., reportedly committed suicide by hanging.

Mary Kennedy was Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s second wife and the couple had four children together. The couple was married for 16 years before a divorce filing in 2010.

"Mary inspired our family with her kindness, her love, her gentle soul and generous spirit," Kennedy Jr.'s family said in a prepared statement. "Mary was a genius at friendship, a tremendously gifted architect and a pioneer and relentless advocate of green design who enhanced her cutting edge, energy efficient creations with exquisite taste and style. She applied her talent, energy and passion which were both brilliant and abundant, to advocacy for treatment and finding a cure for food allergies and asthma. She was an instrumental co-founder and driving force of the Food Allergy Initiative to which contributions may be made in her name.

Another obituary to note: The owner at the center of one of the most famous Kentucky Derby "victories" of all time, Peter Fuller, 89, has died. He was the owner of the 1968 winner Dancer's Image, but the horse was disqualified later on for having a banned substance, a substance that was later on legal.

Fuller contested the Kentucky Racing Commission, which awarded the 1968 victory to second-place Forward Pass, owned by Calumet Farm. The case dragged on for years, but it was finally resolved against him and in favor of the commission. I have the court rulings photocopied, but of course they are in storage in Reno.

An interesting aside: The Kentucky Derby glasses, which list the winners of each of the previous runnings, had Dancer's Image on some glasses and Forward Pass on others until the case was resolved in the 1970s. For the 1969 glass, there was no winner's list.

Fuller died Monday at a skilled-care facility, according to one of his daughters, Miranda Bocko of Rye, N.H.

Fuller was a second-generation Boston auto dealer and son of a former Massachusetts governor who watched Dancer's Image rally from last to win by 1 1/2 lengths over Forward Pass.

A few days later, traces of the drug phenylbutazone were found in Dancer's Image's post-race urinalysis. Dancer's Image was disqualified by the stewards and placed last. Forward Pass was declared the winner.

Fuller, a big supporter of the civil rights movement, suspected his troubles might have stemmed from that support:

Yet his greatest sporting moment became one of his saddest when in 1968 his belief in the fairness of athletic competition was shattered after his horse, Dancer’s Image, came from 14 lengths back to win the Kentucky Derby by a length and a half. From that victory would flow his biggest defeat.

Several weeks before the race, Dancer’s Image won the Governor’s Gold Cup at Bowie Race Course in Maryland three days after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Long an advocate of civil rights, Fuller handed over the purse to King’s widow, Coretta, setting off a firestorm.

Fuller received death threats. One of his stables in New Hampshire was set ablaze. Worst of all, he and many backstretch guys in the know at the time felt his Derby victory was stolen by powerful forces in Kentucky upset with his political stance and enlightened racial convictions.

There isn't any case against John Edwards anyway, but the presiding judge has decided to delay the trial because Edwards has a serious heart condition:

In those letters, the judge said the doctors wrote that the condition was treatable and the former U.S. presidential candidate had a good chance of success if the course of treatment were followed.


"The letters from Mr. Edwards' physicians are pretty clear this is a serious condition," Eagles said.

She indicated that his condition has given him problems on three occasions since being diagnosed in December. She said his condition has affected his daily life and makes it difficult for him to drive.

"Certainly the ends of justice are served by continuance, given the seriousness of his medical condition," Eagles said.

Not good, and definitely not good for his kids.

Novelist and convicted killer Michael Peterson has just walked out of jail thanks to a legal technicality. His murder conviction was thrown out by a judge because an expert witness for the prosecution has turned out to be a crook.

That may be true, but there are others who say his wife didn't die in any "accident" down a flight of stairs. We also know about the death of a one-time lady friend of us who "coincidentally" died down a flight of stairs in Germany.

Call me unimpressed. I hope he is sent back to prison. He might not be, though.

It's intolerable to me that Elizabeth should be erased as well as John. It's doubly intolerable that apparently, people LIKE the prurience-- even though "The Politician" has no psychological insight of JRE, people are lapping it up like ice cream.

All those months I spent studying sociopathy, coercive persuasion, etc. feel like a waste at this moment. Because I am powerless against the dominant narrative, and apparently people LIKE rewarding those two creeps. Even to the point of the Enquirer possibly winning its FIRST Pulitzer.

I just read a great article, linked to by Meteor Blades on DKos, which is originally from The New Republic, of all places. It's called "Labor Pains" and is about how we're forgetting the importance of not just creating jobs, but creating *meaningful* jobs. And of course, I thought of JRE... how he prospered doing work that was meaningful and that he enjoyed, how lucky he was to be an American doing that, in an economy full of mini-dictatorship retail and service establishments.

How that was what I most admired in him... and how making intellectuality sexy was what I most loved about their marriage. How much I wanted to talk to the whole Edwards family about how special and precious those qualities were, how America would be a much better, happier place to live if we could replicate that experience for as many of us as possible.

I want to get in touch with the "Labor Pains" author, Rochelle G., to tell her the same thing. I want to converse with as many people as I can about whatever pops into my head about democracy, and how to make our lives better.

I hope the people we love come out victorious against this all-out attack on their lives. I hope in the future, people remember the better sides of themselves and start talking about minds and thought processes rather than titillations.

Former John Edwards aide Andrew Young and his wife Cheri, dodged a trip to jail today over their handling of a purported sex tape allegedly made by the one-time presidential candidate and his mistress, according to ABC's WTVD-TV.

After ordering the Youngs to go to jail for up to 75 days for contempt of court, Superior Court Judge Abraham Penn Jones changed his mind and gave the couple until Friday to hand over any missing items, including any copies of the tape and to provide an explanation for how they handled the materials.

Superior Court Judge Abraham Penn Jones said that he held the Youngs in contempt because he believes they were not truthful about the disposition of the items he ordered the Youngs to turn over.

Supposedly Edwards has asked con artist Lisa Jo Druck to marry him and even further disgrace himself.

According to him, however, the story isn't true:

"It's absolutely not true," says a spokesperson for Edwards, of a story in the National Enquirer that claims the two plan to wed after his divorce from Elizabeth Edwards is complete.

Though the former senator acknowledged last month that he is the father of a 2-year-old girl with Hunter, a spokesperson for Edwards says he and Hunter don't communicate directly any longer.

"They only communicate through a third party," to work out Edwards visitation, the spokesperson says, and when the former presidential candidate visits daughter Frances Quinn, Hunter is not present.
