Even though people don't have use for the GOP, the distinct possibility we will have a shitbag for the nominee is good news for John McCain.
While Obama or Clinton do better in matchups against McCain in this and other polls, they really don't mean anything, as the election is determined by the Electoral College. Clinton would do better than Obama, who has such narrow support (college students, blacks, elites--the old McGovern coalition), Democrats would be looking at losing in a landslide.
In my view, it appears a split ticket is in the offering this fall, with Democrats continuing to control one or both houses of Congress while the GOP retains the White House.
