Steamboat Ditch.

A little while ago I returned from a five-mile hike of the Tom Cooke Trail which parallels Steamboat Ditch. The trail is located off of 4th Street in Reno towards Verdi. There weren't a whole lot of wildflowers out, and I wasn't quick enough to get pictures of a couple lizards and tiger swallowtail butterflies this time out.

Beautiful photos!

I hate to show my ignorance, but who is Tom Cooke?

Obviously the trail is named after him. I looked up the name, and there is or was a Thomas A. Cooke who was involved in the Tahoe Regional Planning Commission and was an attorney. The trail is of recent origin, according to the hiking guide, Afoot & Afield, Reno-Tahoe. My guess the trail is named after him.

I hike a couple of times a week throughout the region; it takes my mind off the mess I am going through with my employer right now. I also cycle a couple of times a week and run. I take my camera almost every time I go out hiking. One never knows what one will find.

I should have said "Agency" instead of "Commission."
