Campaign Foot-in-Mouth

Of course John McCain is going to "milk" his POW experience for political gain, just as Barack Obama is milking his exotic ethnic background for political gain. Still, it is not good for former president Carter to even bring McCain's experience up.

McCain's POW experience is really something people should not bring up because there will be a backlash from voters. There are other things to go after McCain on.

John McCain's military service is worthy of respect. That's one reason I will vote for him even though I said I am a liberal Democrat. Republicans are smart they knew everybody but McCain was unelectable. downticket Dems or initiatives will still have my support.

But I think Bush is despicable though. Cheney too. This bunch makes Spiro Agnew look like James Madison. At least McCain and Palin are not Cheney and his sock puppet. At least we have that. Bush will truly go down as one of the worst presidents, a rival of Franklin Pierce and Millard Fillmore. Iraq or no Iraq. I think in the dark recesses of Bush's addled mind he knows his legacy is headed towards turdsville. That's why he says let the historians sort all this disaster out, and he will be vindicated long after he goes. Right. If I could sum up the Bush years with one word, I'd say "lawless."

PS I thought Gore's speech was flat, didn't sound like the fiery Gore of old. I am finally bored with his tired old global warming stuff, I am tired of hearing it, and I think he turned off the crowd. He is like a broken record; a relative that does nothing but talk about a certain sports team whenever you run into him. I still love him though and consider him a man who won a legitimate presidency.

We thought what the supremes did to Gore was awful, but it's somehow OK when a Dem does it to another Dem and the party says fine.

McCain's military career should off-limits for criticism, especially his time as POW. It is as taboo as attacking a candidate's children (which of course didn't stop McCain from "joking" about Chelsea Clinton!). Besides, veterans make up a huge voting bloc, and there is no point alienating them.

Re Gore: I think the USSC decision broke his heart. I think it really undermined all of his beliefs about this country and fair elections. It was the same with Bill and Hillary Clinton when they went through all of that shit with the radicals of the GOP; they never thought a coup attempt was possible in this country.

And it WAS a coup against Gore, against the majority of people who voted for him. And yes, we Democrats can't possibly talk about fair elections now when we have a candidate in Obama who lied and cheated his way to the nomination.

Gore would have followed the constitution as president. How novel an idea.
