Frank Rich tries to explain why it is Obama, who should be way ahead in the polls, is statistically tied with John McCain before the conventions have even taken place.
It's all because the media hasn't vetted John McCain, in this piece of classic projection, and they have allowed the "swiftboating" of Obama to go unabated.
In point of fact the media picked both of our candidates, being as they are in the tank for corporate America and yes, the Republican Party. Obama had already reached his peak back in February, before the Jeremiah Wright story became public knowledge. It has been downhill for him ever since.
If McCain hasn't received the scrutiny he should, it's because he was the media darling.
We had other and better candidates, Frank, but the media made sure we wouldn't have them.

The media doesn’t have to promote McCain; everybody knows him and what he stands for. On the other hand to this day Barack Obama remains the elusive candidate. He is the one that the media has promoted from day one. It is becoming clear now that the media is having second thoughts about having promoted and unqualified and inept politician for the Presidency of the U.S.A.
Half of the citizens in our nation are contemplating voting for some one that could not even meet the standards to be hired in most jobs within our government.
Look at it this way: If elected he would be entrusted with our nuclear arsenal at the tip of his finger.
How many of our government agencies would hire someone who had close relationships with felons and terrorists. Most would not even hire someone who admitted of smoking pot and doing cocaine. By his own admission, he broke the law every time he did either one.

Susan,
When was the last time a candidate Frank Rich supported in the primaries went on to win the presidency?
I am guessing never.
Obama's "base" is a coalition of African Americans and the liberal elite. People like Frank Rich, the Huffington Post crowd etc.
Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, two Democrats who managed to win the presidency in recent history were both despised by the liberal elites.
Liberal elites rally around candidates who cannot relate to middle America. In the past the liberal elites have cheered on George McGovern, Paul Tsongas, Jerry Brown, Gary Hart, Ralph Nader.....
This is why the GOP wins presidential elections. Conservative elites rally around candidates acceptable to middle America. This is the big difference between the liberal and conservative elites. Conservative elites are not condescending to middle America. They love Rush Limbaugh. They support candidates who will appeal to Rush listeners. They are not snobs. Liberals elites are snobs and support snobbish candidates.
Frank Rich despises people who "cling to their guns and bibles" just like his candidate Obama.
Compare that to conservative elites, people like George Will. Conservative elites side with people who "cling to their guns and bibles" and support candidates who will appeal to middle America.
You have thought Democrats would have learned a thing or two from the McGovern debacle and the whole misguided identity politics (I am not even going to write about the rigging of the 1972 primaries which everybody by now knows).
But they haven't.
