Yes, an Obama defeat can actually be a victory for Democrats by ridding the party of the likes of the DNC chair, Donna Brazile, and so forth. However, the nutroots should NEVER be overlooked, for they were instrumental in creating this mess.
I maintain, however, the Democrats decided to "throw" the election to McCain because they knew an economic meltdown was on the way. They figure they can return in 2012. I don't know who they would pick, though, as the nominee.
