Where the Hell Do Democrats and "Progressives" Go

now that Obama isn't what the media made him out to be but another compromised politician of the Chicago School? I don't just mean the corrupt Chicago school of politics but the Chicago School, as in Friedmanism.

This is only a caution, not a prediction. But without a strong populist progressive movement, based on the economic and social well being of all Americans, we run a serious risk of further disintegration.

The first thing that needs to happen is for there to be a clear distinction between smug, self-serving liberalism contemptuous of so many Americans and a populist progressive movement that seeks unity with those many liberals prefer simply to condemn.

The magnets for this unity are such obvious yet ignored issues as the creation of jobs, the preservation of pensions, decent treatment of endangered homeowners, an end to credit card usury, respect for local decision-making, and, yes, a healthcare plan based on providing financial assistance, not bureaucratic nightmares.

The elitists have always been the bane of the Democratic Party since the McGovern debacle of 1972. Bread-and-butter issues were traditionally those issues which Democrats clearly had the edge, but those have gradually been pushed aside for identity politics and silly damned crap having no bearing on the grand scheme of things (e.g., same-sex marriage).

But it isn't just the elitists and the nutroots who are a reflection of those elitists; it's also the damned neoliberals as well who are a problem and are a hindrance to anything resembling helping working people.

Finally, the cult of personality egged on by the media needs to stop. I don't care WHO the politician is. It could be Barack Obama, it could be Howard Dean, it could be Dennis Kucinich, it could be Hillary Clinton. The idolization of politicians needs to stop. It accomplishes nothing. Voters must look into the actions of a candidate or president, and not be swayed by empty rhetoric.

Yet another "prominent" blogger is upset as hell with President Obama and demands he quit forcing the "left" to "eat shit":

What we are seeing right now is a semi-coordinated, semi-spontaneous revolt on the left to the latest compromises in the Senate health care reform bill. We can talk about the wisdom and possible efficacy of this revolt, but the administration has to deal with the left they have, not the left that they might wish to have (to use some Rumsfeldian logic). What the administration is facing is a consequence of the left having to eat too much shit on a whole host of issues from military commissions, a failure to root out and punish the crimes and practices of the Bush administration, the escalation of the war in Afghanistan, a too-friendly bailout of Wall Street, and now a health care bill that bears little resemblance to what Obama promised us in the campaign.

Obama can't pass anything that doesn't have unanimous support in the Democratic caucus because of the ruthless obstruction and opposition of the Republican Party. This forces him to govern to the center and make all his compromises with centrist Democrats and/or the two still-existing centrist Republicans in the Senate. The Republican obstruction empowers people like Joe Lieberman. It actually gives veto power to every single senator, but the only way to make up for a defecting Democrat is to win over Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins. So, if Bernie Sanders or Roland Burris revolt, he has to move the bill further to the right in response.

What this writer and the nutroots in general who cheerleaded Obama don't understand is Obama's constituency has NEVER been the "left" anyway; he couldn't give a shit less about them now that the election is over with.

This will inure to your detriment in future negotiations, domestic and foreign, where your adversaries and allies alike will offer a symbolic hand in friendship but deny you the utility or advantage of any real help requiring real sacrifice on their part.

It is with great sadness and disillusionment I write this letter. I have believed in your message of hope even as late as last week. I have exhausted myself in your defense and thought your critics on the left to be expecting too much or those on the right to be assigning to you the blame for problems created before your time. Now I can no longer hide from the conclusion that, while you seek to achieve accommodation on almost all issues, you seek to avoid controversy when the decision-making process is a shared one; i.e. domestic matters where the commander-in-chief cannot dominate the topic. The American people want to see someone who will not only work hard for them but, when necessary, fight for them. By capitulating unreasonably to Senator Lieberman on health care reform, you show you are not a fighter; you are willing to accept the mediocre even after expending a huge amount of political capital. You show Republicans that you are a pushover and that once you commit to a course of action you will compromise to the point that the original purpose underlying that course of action is itself defeated.

People having read this blog have known a long, long time about the real Barack Obama, not the media-hyped Messiah from Hyde Park. I don't want to say, "I told you so," but "I told you so."

Apparently Obama is concerned he is getting too much criticism from the mainstream press, so now he wants to do "outreach" to liberal or "progressive" bloggers, most of whom were totally uncritical of him during last year's election campaign, although more than a few of them now do not regard him as the great savior they thought he was:

Obama himself plans to meet soon with liberal bloggers, according to an administration official. With little fanfare, he’s already sat for interviews with Black Enterprise magazine, Telemundo and Los Angeles-based Hispanic radio host Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo.

The president also will try some outreach on more mainstream commentators and the like, but really he should do his damned job and worry only about what the public at large thinks, not try to be a master propagandist himself.

The Very Thought Must Give the Nutroots Fits

Gossip abounds Senator Joseph Lieberman, the target of an unsuccessful nutroots campaign a couple of years ago to deny him re-election to the Senate, could eventually rejoin the Democratic Party.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he did.

More Wrongheadedness by the Nutroots

Some of them have set up a group called "Accountability Now" which instead of challenging Republican incumbents, which is the sane move, they want to go after Democrats who do NOT fit in with their idea of what a Democrat should be, i.e., "blue dog" Democrats who come from conservative districts and cannot ever elected if they voted like Dennis Kucinich.

If Democrats made up of 2/3rds of Congress, such an idea wouldn't be bad, but not right now. Democrats don't even have a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate right now.

What in the hell happened to Josh Marshall, and why did he sully himself to the point of being such a liar and sellout?

Short answer: It's the promise of riches, stupid. All of the other one-time amateur bloggers (excepting Huffington, who already WAS a paid pundit) had visions of one day becoming part of the punditocracy themselves, and with it, fame and fortune. If that meant lying about politicians like Al Gore or John McCain or Sarah Palin to hit the big time, all the better.

It's not hard to understand. The love of money is the root of all evil, just as the lack of money is also.

Campaign Fiasco

Yes, an Obama defeat can actually be a victory for Democrats by ridding the party of the likes of the DNC chair, Donna Brazile, and so forth. However, the nutroots should NEVER be overlooked, for they were instrumental in creating this mess.

I maintain, however, the Democrats decided to "throw" the election to McCain because they knew an economic meltdown was on the way. They figure they can return in 2012. I don't know who they would pick, though, as the nominee.

Paul Hackett, that darling of the nutroots a couple of years ago and little more than a Republican himself, is worried sick Obama's chances of winning Ohio are less than my winning the MegaMillions lottery. He has some suggestions, which are music to the ears of the Kossacks, or are they, given the views of many if not most of the commenters of the post:

The solution rests with local surrogates on the ground spreading the attack face to face coupled with an air campaign via radio and TV.

The message is simple and the professionals can refine it but essentially it should contain these elements:

"Sarah Palin? Can't keep her solemn oath of devotion to her husband and had sex with his employee. Sarah Palin? Accidentally got pregnant at age 43 and the tax payers of Alaska have to pay for the care of her disabled child. Sarah Palin? Unable to teach her 16 year old daughter right from wrong and now another teenager is pregnant. Sarah Palin? Can you trust Sarah Palin and her values with America's future? John McCain? Divorced from his first wife one month and marries a billionaire influence peddler and convicted felon. John McCain, a record of rash and impulsive decisions. That’s not change that’s more of the same.”

I believe that shit with Sarah Palin has already been tried; as a result, McCain's poll numbers are up and he's ahead of Obama.

Keep it up, Hackett, and maybe the Obama campaign will heed your advice and lose in a 57-state blowout.

The Nutroots Chronicles, Chapter MMVIII

Obama is quickly fading, just as I have been saying, but do you think the nutroots care about what happens, not only the the presidential ticket, but to those downticket races as well?

Of course not. When his supporters are faced with facts, they instead keep trashing fellow Democrats such as Clinton supporters, which Obama needs to have a chance in hell.

Unfortunately, the damage was done May 31 by the RBC, and nothing could be done to reverse course.

The DNC either didn't want to offend a key voting bloc, the African American bloc, in selecting Obama, or else they thought the gravy train of obscene amounts of cash would come in forever.

I am afraid it isn't going to happen.

There's no doubt that it was a game changer. All you have to do is go to Daily Kos and see that we haven't written about McCain in a week now, right? It's a singular obsession with Palin. She's the gift that keeps on giving. To me, it seems pretty obvious that McCain wanted [Tom] Ridge or [Joe] Lieberman but he's too weak within his own party to get the candidate he wanted, so he had to go with someone to appease the right wing.

They saw that Obama was going to be able to rally the Clinton supporters with Hillary Clinton's help. They probably saw Obama's speech and saw how incredible and dynamic and how powerful it was and realized that a safe pick wasn't going to give them any hope of victory in November so they had to shake things up. They threw a Hail Mary with Sarah Palin, they didn't vet her, so they had no clue who she was. They saw that she was attractive and very popular in Alaska -- remember, Alaska is actually a swing state. It was in play; Obama was competitive in the polls. So they locked down Alaska. And she's clearly popular with the right and they've embraced her because of her radical right-wing views on the role of religion in government, and it completely, utterly, on that Friday, took Obama off the airwaves.

Well, Kos, does ANYBODY even remember that sorry excuse for a speech? They didn't "vet" her, yet Obama was NEVER VETTED.

It is HILARIOUS to think right-wing Alaska, almost as red a state as Idaho and Utah, was considered to be in "play" for Democrats before Palin was nominated. What absolutely delusional shit is this?

Once Obama goes down in the trash bin of American history, the party will HAVE to purge themselves of people like this who do NOTHING for Democrats at all.

Here is the Juneau paper/AP report of Palin having given birth to Trig this past April:

Gov. Sarah Palin gave birth Friday to her fifth child, a boy, about a month before her due date.

Trig Paxson Van Palin weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces. A news release from Palin's office says the 44-year-old governor and the baby are doing well and resting comfortably.

And this:

Palin went into labor Thursday while attending an energy conference for governors in Texas, where she gave a keynote address. Her contractions let up enough for her to fly home on Alaska Airlines to deliver her baby in Alaska, Leighow said.

Until there is proof otherwise the "rumors" are bullshit. After all, there would be plenty of witnesses at the governor's conference to Palin going into labor.

People should take a look at the "urban hike" video again. Palin is wearing what could only be described as a maternity jacket.*

The Anchorage Daily News reported her pregnancy back in March.

She felt safe flying to Alaska to have her baby:

The governor, eight months into her pregnancy, noticed amniotic fluid Thursday morning prior to giving a keynote luncheon address at the Republican Governor’s Energy Conference in Texas. After wrapping up the speech, Palin and her husband consulted with her physician about possibly flying home on an earlier flight. After being granted permission from her doctor, she and her husband proceeded with the trek home.

These stories should put the rumors to rest.

I Sure Agree With This Post

FUCK UNITY.

No more should people who pointed out the absolutely despicable behavior of the Obama supporters, the Obamas, and the Obama campaign be told they have to "get over it" and have to tolerate the insults of being called "dead-enders." The Obama supporters continue their quest to disenfranchise as many voters as possible, first with the rigging of the caucuses and the DNC, now with insults.

Support has to be EARNED, and Obama and his campaign haven't done one thing to earn it.

Obama is going down and probably sooner rather than later. The knives are slowly coming out, and Obama will bleed a million cuts before this is over.

Not only should Obama go into the trash bin of history, but so should the nutroots who blindly followed this guy and swallowed the media propaganda.

Call it the "last hurrah" of the nutroots. When Obama goes to certain defeat, and believe me, when Massachusetts and Michigan are considered tossups (provided Romney is on the GOP ticket), it's not only over for the Democrats, it's probably over for the bloggers, too.

Their track record has been miserable as it is in electing anybody worth a shit. And then to be SO gullible as to swallow the media hype over Obama and trash Hillary Clinton is really beyond the pale. Treating a right-leaning "Democrat" with privatizer/neocon advisers as a "progressive hero" while trashing real Democrats makes me ask a lot of questions as to WHO these "progressive Democrats" REALLY represent.

Somebody was paying these people off to spew 24/7 propaganda on behalf of Obama and against Democrats.

And if readers didn't see this effort to push AP to remove Ron Fournier from the presidential beat for daring to spew the inevitable Republican talking points about Obama, they should. Dumb shit Hamsher has a history of doing stupid stunts like promoting Ned Lamont and driving Joseph Lieberman out of the Democratic Party (when the party couldn't afford defections), and trying to deny Larry Sinclair a hearing at the National Press Club on his allegations against Obama and thus drawing attention to him. This is just another one of her dumb stunts.

Gee, Jane, you mean you didn't see it coming at ALL? Little old me, who makes nothing on this blog and gets relatively few hits, saw this shit coming more than a year-and-a-half ago. If you weren't so much in the tank for Obama, if not financially in the tank for him, you would have seen it.

But the nutroots have never been known for astute thinking or for thinking at all.

When Did the Netroots Become the Nutroots?

Here is an explanation of what went wrong.

Actually, there were signs LONG before "Obama" came on the scene; the nutroots started almost from the beginning when they called themselves the "netroots." They started going off the deep end in 2004 when they promoted what to me were totally ridiculous candidates for president, namely the Mouth and Wesley Clark. They started getting notions in their head they were big players on the scene and that they would create their own brand of machine politics. You saw people like Kos trash traditional Democratic principles such as public financing of campaigns when they endorsed the Mouth and Clark going off public financing. This was stupid in light of the fact they were going up against somebody who had an unlimited amount of cash to draw upon (John Kerry). Their losses didn't stop them, though, in their wrongheaded quest to be major players in the Democratic Party. The party has been further damaged because of their stupid antics.

The Mouth, Wesley Clark, Paul Hackett, Ned Lamont, and now "Barack Obama" are just a few of their successes on the machine front. A lot of this support stemmed from the nutroots trying to relive the 1960s' antiwar movement. What all of these people had in common, at least to the nutroots' eyes, was they appeared to be antiwar. Nothing else mattered. With "Obama" especially it took a contortion act to try and paint this right-wing "Democrat" with University of Chicago connections into a "progressive." Since these rebels without a cause ranted and raved against the DLC, not knowing what the DLC actually was, they went against Hillary Clinton, wife of Mr. DLC himself. They went after her recycling old right-wing lies, recycling lies about the IWR vote, which was NOT a license for our dictator to go to war, and so forth. It was truly bizarre to watch, for Hillary Clinton was to the left of Obama.

But there's been manipulation along the way, by the media, by the GOP, by the Obama campaign, with a lot of these nutroots being on the take. Now that "Obama" has all but been officially declared the nominee of his party and revealed his real positions, positions that were out there all along if people had just done the research, they are crying foul.

"Obama" is not a "centrist" Democrat; he's not even a Democrat at all.

Theories, Theories

There are many theories floating around trying to explain what looks to be the disintegration and even the destruction of the Democratic Party. This post does a good job in implicating the nutroots, and so does this post. But the nutroots don't exist in a vacuum. I still submit the mainstream media, in cahoots with the GOP, much more than the nutroots, played THE major role in damaging the Democratic Party. The nutroots would NOT have joined the Obama bandwagon in the first place were it not for the 24/7 media propaganda pumping this fraud up as the next MLK, JFK, RFK, Lincoln, or Jesus Christ. They came relatively late on the scene.

Sure, the shit got much worse AFTER Iowa and AFTER Edwards was forced out. But how did Edwards GET forced out? Who was responsible? How did Biden, Dodd, and Richardson get marginalized? Who was responsible? Did the bloggers do that? No, it was the media. The bloggers had NOTHING to do with that. It was only after the two weakest general election candidates, Clinton and Obama, were left that the nutroots attacks began. THEN you saw the viciousness of the so-called progressive blogosphere directed towards the Clinton supporters. Lies about the Clintons were being perpetrated, and the worst of all was shitting all over them by helping Obama play the race card.

And why did they do this? Mostly it was a result of the massive propaganda campaign in favor of Obama, and partly it has to do with the relative age and political experience of the so-called left blogosphere. Basically these people are very susceptible to propaganda and few remember the ratfucking of yore against the Democratic Party (e.g., 1972). Some of these idiots pulled on Hillary Clinton exactly what they did to Joe Lieberman back in 2006 and shit all over him because of the Iraq War and pumped up an idiot to run against him. That was the first sign of trouble, when so-called progressives were willing to hound Democrats out of the party because they didn't kowtow to their notion of what a Democrat is. They began to shred to pieces the big tent of the Democratic Party. In 2008, these same fools actually believed the crap Obama was anti-war, but he wasn't. Not at all. But they didn't care what the truth was. What they knew was Clinton was supposedly pro-war, and they were going to work like hell to defeat her. Moreover, the nutroots didn't care the guy didn't appear to stand for a goddamned thing except give little Hallmark platitudes about getting along with the fascistic right. He got away with a lot of shit in all honestly because of his racial background. He was saying things and is STILL saying things nobody else would get away with because of it. He knew that and played it up to the hilt. The danger signs surrounding Obama were there for ANYBODY to see; the nutroots simply refused to see it.

The one thing missing from the analysis is the fact the media are in the tank for McCain. The media also manipulated the Republican voters into selecting McCain, despite many voters' misgivings. The manipulation went on with both sides, although it was MUCH worse with the Democrats.

We also cannot leave out the structural problems with the primary and caucus system which made it VERY easy for the GOP to manipulate. And manipulate they did to benefit somebody they felt would be very easy to beat. Many Republicans may despise McCain, but they were willing to put up with him as their party's standardbearer in hopes they can manipulate him. And perhaps many of them feel as I do McCain would serve just one term anyway and look for a running mate a little more in tune with their own goals.

So did the Obama campaign manipulate the nutroots or did the McCain campaign? Well, both I suppose, but the GOP-leaning media created the manipulation in the first place by force feeding the two candidates on voters to the exclusion of much better candidates (at least on the Democratic Party side).

Finally the party apparatus itself joined in the mess and ultimately forced Hillary Clinton out, just as they had forced John Edwards out when it looked as if he would actually gain traction for Super Tuesday. They wanted to "make history" because the media were pushing that narrative, but more important, they were afraid of offending a key constituency and never mind the constituency would have supported any Democrat regardless.

Yes, the nutroots played and still play a key role in the division of the Democratic Party, but the GOP and the GOP-leaning media laid the groundwork for the division. They will continue to manipulate our elections until we wake the hell up.

We've got a mess, and yes, once Obama is defeated I want the nutroots purged once and for all from the Democratic Party. They were and are either willing or unwitting tools of the GOP/GOP-leaning media propaganda machine.

The Cause of PUMA

While bloggers from sites like the Huffington Post and Daily Kos whine about PUMA, in truth they helped cause this anti-Obama movement.

And if Obama is nominated and goes down to almost certain defeat in November, the nutroots need share a large part of the blame for it. Not that they will, of course, but they should.

Campaign Insanity.

Although it was ALWAYS out there Obama was far to the right of any of the other Democrats running for president in 2008 and for that matter not even a real Democrat, the nutroots chose to ignore the truth about him and projected their own beliefs and neuroses on the media-marketed messiah.

Now the truth about Obama being just another crooked, craven, lying, scheming politician in the pocket of neocons and Wall Street has proven to be a bitter pill for them to swallow.

If the nutroots have any sense, which they don't, they would join the PUMAs and others totally pissed off with the Democratic primaries and begin a "dump Obama" movement before Denver. Instead, they are bellyaching those who saw through the Chicago Shitbag are Republican stooges.

No, it's Obama who is the GOP stooge, the ringer pumped up by the media's 24/7 propaganda and the GOP's dirty crossover voting in order to divide the Democrats along racial, gender, income, and age lines. The DNC bigwigs later followed suit in pumping up this fraud in order to not offend a key constituency and perhaps to deliberately throw the election to McCain in hopes of getting back the White House in 2012.
