Famed British television actor Patrick McGoohan, best known for his 1960s television series Secret Agent and The Prisoner (the latter series I have on DVD), has passed away after a short illness, according to his son-in-law. He was 80 years old.

The Prisoner, a 1967 British television series, featured McGoohan playing the mysterious Number Six and was confined to an even more mysterious "prison," a hamlet called "The Village," was regarded as one of the finest television series of all time. McGoohan co-created, directed, produced (as executive producer), and starred in it. It ran for 17 episodes.

My favorite episode of The Prisoner was the one where he played not just Number Six, but also someone else who was created as Number Six. I could not take my eyes off the television for one second, or I would lost track which McGoohan was which.
