Travolta [Updated]

Speculation continues to abound about whether the Travoltas' Scientology beliefs had anything to do with their son's death.

We will know soon enough once the autopsy results are made public. For all we know, Jett could have simply slipped and fallen in the tub, hitting his head. Until we know definitively, speculation is rather pointless.

Here is a video clip that has been making the rounds of the internet:

I admit while watching this that nobody leads a 16-year-old by the hand unless he had some serious cognitive problem. Having worked with a couple of autistics, it would seem he was one.

I'll admit that I am doing some questioning and editorializing myself over at Blue Lyon, but it is pretty clear that the Travolta/Prestons have been in denial about their son's true condition (see this video, wherein Jett is led by the hand, guided by both front and back by others, seatbelted by the nanny into the car, appears to be engaging in self-stimulating behaviors and never once speaks to anyone).

It's also strange how the story of Jett's demise keeps changing. The original: "He went into the bathroom the night before and then was found the next morning at 10 am by the caretaker" is the one closest to the event, and included in the police report. Also included in the police report is the fact that Jett suffered from seizures.

That story has now been replaced and embellished by Travolta's attorney and NOW says that Jett was seen several times that morning going back and forth, that John administered CPR, etc, and indicates that Jett seemed to be under constant supervision with a full-time nanny, baby monitor in his room, and a bell on the bathroom door to indicate when he went in and out (I guess).

I have no doubt this family is grieving terribly, but given that Scientology has some very bizarre beliefs about disease (both physical and neurological) with regard to causation and treatment, I can't help but question everything about Jett's tragic death (and life).

I saw the clip of Jett getting into the vehicle, and he was just like a student I had taught at a middle school who had serious autism. He had to be led around as well or he would wander off.

I can image it is hard to face the fact a child has disabilities, but denial just doesn't change it. Lots and lots of speculation will continue over Jett's death, I think even after the autopsy results become public.
