It isn't just higher health insurance premiums which result in longer unemployment for those workers like yours truly who are 45 and older; it's also the fact that if you are in public employment, especially public schools as I was, age discrimination in hiring and terminations is rampant because of the desire to cheat people out of their retirement benefits. This doesn't just apply to vesting but also to cheating workers out of higher monthly retirement benefits by forcing them out early.
I should know because I have been out of work for almost a year, the longest of my life, and the sons of bitches at the school district got rid of me because of the desire to cheat me out of retirement benefits by using trumped up charges to cover up obvious age discrimination. We will see if they will get away with this travesty.
