The solution to the problem is easy: make the exploiters, the men who use and abuse them, the criminals and take this problem seriously.
Women also have to have options other than exploiting themselves, but getting rid of the demand side of the equation takes care of the supply side.
Snip:
Some claim that women choose to work as prostitutes, but you call it the ultimate act of humiliation and desperation.
A very small number do it by choice. Studies show that the vast majority, 89 per cent in one, desperately want out. They're hungry, need to feed children or give health care to aging parents, and the only alternative is to take their clothes off and service platoons of men.
They can't get any other work?
Not in many Third World countries or where sex tourists go. For women in Moscow, Kiev, other parts of Ukraine, there is absolutely no work for young women. They are in abject poverty ... There are so many escorts, from Third World countries, you have to ask, "How did they get here?" They don't have business acumen or language skills. On the lower east side in Vancouver, the vast majority have serious mental-health issues, drug issues, or are native women tossed off reserves. They're controlled by pimps with a bag of white powder. The drug is their handcuffs.

No offense but this is an absolutely ridiculous argument. You'll never get rid of the world's oldest profession and the majority of prostitutes would probably kindly ask you to point your self-righteous energy somewhere else. Human trafficking is a terrible thing but most escorts are happy with what you are doing.
For evidence of such, you need look no further than sites like http://www.naughtyreviews.com where escorts themselves sign up and create profiles so that they can interact with their clients. Why don't you check out one of these sites and ask the women themselves whether they are happy with their job or not?
I have just finished a documentary "Happy Endings?" on the legal prostitution in Asian massage parlors in RI. In Rhode Island prostitution is legal as long as it happens behind closed doors. The law changed in 1982 because COYOTE sued when only the women were being arrested. The same thing happens today in ALL states where prostitution is illegal, mostly the sex workers are arrested and not the johns. So actually making prostitution legal would help the women, since only women get arrested.
