Last week residents of the Hat Creek Valley area near Lassen Volcanic National Park were "treated" to a series of wildfires which ultimately destroyed 11,269 acres. It is called the Sugarloaf Fire. Yesterday, as my brother and I were driving back to Medford, Oregon, on Highway 44 near the Highway 89 junction, we went to the overlook, which had been reopened although the area surrounding it was charred. Fire crews were still in the area as of yesterday. This is the overlook where, on a clear day, people can see both Lassen Peak and Mount Shasta. I took some pictures of the devastation and also have included a picture of Mount Shasta from the vista point near McCloud.
