Sugarloaf Fire Aftermath

Last week residents of the Hat Creek Valley area near Lassen Volcanic National Park were "treated" to a series of wildfires which ultimately destroyed 11,269 acres. It is called the Sugarloaf Fire. Yesterday, as my brother and I were driving back to Medford, Oregon, on Highway 44 near the Highway 89 junction, we went to the overlook, which had been reopened although the area surrounding it was charred. Fire crews were still in the area as of yesterday. This is the overlook where, on a clear day, people can see both Lassen Peak and Mount Shasta. I took some pictures of the devastation and also have included a picture of Mount Shasta from the vista point near McCloud.

Brief Video of Hat Creek Valley Overlook

This is a brief clip of the overlook above Hat Creek Valley, California, near Old Station on Highway 44. One can see both Lassen Peak and Mount Shasta from there. The weather was a little bit hazy, but Shasta can be seen.

Some Pictures from My Quickie Trip to and from Reno

Despite the haze and clouds, Mount Shasta can clearly be seen from the Hat Creek Valley vista point.

Lassen Peak from the Hat Creek Valley vista point. Today was the first time I had stopped there to get a great view of both Lassen and Mount Shasta.

Mount Shasta at around 6:00 tonight from Interstate 5 near Weed, California.
