Gibbons is the first sitting governor in the show’s history who refused to appear in the opening video, Sheep Dip officials said.
Instead, this year’s welcoming video will feature a “surprise performer” and a “governor substitute” will play the part of Gibbons in the “Veto It” video, which has lyrics set to the music of the late Michael Jackson’s song “Beat It,” said Sheep Dip executive producer Kathy Breen.
Breen said the video contains the same lyrics Gov. Gibbons and his staff found offensive, except for a final verse, which was not personal but had to do with Gibbons firing his chief of staff.
