Yet idiots still continue to disregard them in national parks, and yet more tragedies result, as in the most recent Yosemite accident.
Since there was a ton of precipitation during the winter, and "winter" lasted a lot long in the Sierra than normal, the falls are full at Yosemite this time of year. People are absolutely crazy for tempting fate.
When I went to the Grand Canyon four years ago, it was the same thing. The canyon didn't scare me that much, but it was the goddamned idiots who were on the rocks at the very edge who scared the crap out of me. Anything to get a picture despite the fact any slip up at all would cost them their lives.
And those who had kids and allowed THEM to get close to the edge should have been jailed for child endangerment.
A video of Vernal Falls from about a month ago tells the story of how dangerous it is.
