Diane Ravitch gave a speech in Cleveland last month discussing the disastrous federal education policies:
Ravitch is worth hearing. She gives Ohio hell for its dubious "reforms."
Re Finland: I get tired of the constant talking about Finland. Finland has a TOTAL population of about 5 million people, about ten percent of the total K-12 student population in the United States. Few students are from other countries, and few are in poverty. In other words, Finland has a small, homogeneous population compared to the United States.
It's apples and oranges to compare Finland to the U.S.
