It's such a paradise for teachers.
That is if you don't mind being treated like a serf:
FYI to ALL: FLORIDA is just as bad, maybe even worse for
teachers. First and foremost, teachers EVERYWHERE are
facing the same problems in the classroom:
1. Low Performing students with permanent learning
disabilities that will NEVER allow them to perform "On"
grade level. These children USED to be the 'exception' in
most classrooms, but now they have become 'the rule' or
NORM (sad, isn't it?).
2. Apathetic or In denial parents who are just happy to get
their kid out of the house for 6-7 hours each weekday.
(These are the folks who would welcome 7 days a week
schooling with open arms).
3. School administrators who are inept, just plain
inefficient, and/or who are most worried about keeping
their own jobs.
4. State legislatures who have decided to blame TEACHERS
for all the ills of society and especially education. Of
course this has led to the rallying cry, "Throw the
inefficient teachers OUT!" This has led to legislation
that punishes ANYONE who chose teaching as a career. In FL
this entire movement is pushing for a totally public
CHARTER school system in which the state hands over public
funds to the private corporations that operate the
charters, then the state basically bails out of the pubic
education biz. NO pensions to pay, no unions to deal with,
etc.....
5. Within a few short years a really good teacher, who
works like a maniac trying every conceivable way to get
their low performers (especially) to learn can be told that
they're INEFFECTIVE, HAVE NOT PERFORMED OR IMPROVED AS A
TEACHER, have their teaching certificate(license) revoked,
and in effect be rendered unemployed AND unemployable in
education. Yes, ALL of this lovely unpleasantness will
have occurred because a certain percentage of that
teacher's students either honestly failed their
standardized test, or failed it on purpose ("Christmas
treeing' the test).
6. The teacher stress level in FL is horrible. Those who
can retire, either have retired or will be bailing out
ASAP. Many younger teachers have either left the
profession or they are looking to leave. Who is willing to
risk the career and financial well-being of one's self or
family to the whims of minor children taking a test?
7. All in all, education is NOT the place to be working in
at this time.

This was in response to a post describing how terrible teaching was in Arizona.
Hell, you can fill in the blank with virtually every state in the country.
