Comments Re Philly Sup Search

There are some absolutely terrific comments over at the Philly.com site regarding the superintendent search. The powers-that-be decided on only two finalists, both of whom are unqualified to lead the district.

The finalists are William Hite of Prince George's County, Maryland, schools and Pedro Martinez, the spectacularly incompetent deputy superintendent of Clark County, Nevada, and a crony of Arne Duncan's back in Chicago.

Philadelphia schools are clearly being failed on purpose. Some choice comments following the article:

Everyone needs to do some research on Hite. His school board just took a vote of no confidence against him. He also has complaints about his working relationship with female employees and accusations of nepotism to the nth degree. I can't attach links here, but just do a search for him.

Well folks. The District has done it. They found someone WORSE than Arlene Ackerman. Arlene was Queen, William Hite is from Prince George's County. So staying within the confines of royalty, I dub him Prince William Hite. The School Districts next monumental mistake. Next to Hite and Pedro "Mr. Ed the horseface" Martinez, Wendell Pritchett ain't looking so bad as a fall back superintendent. This is exactly what Dick Cheney did, he picked very flawed candidates so he could swoop in and take the job.

Just Google "William Hite No Confidence"
Here are some results-

Brio, I completely agree with you. If there is a search committee, why not let them make the final decision? If the SRC selects the next superintendent, how can they be independent of one another.

I can also see why 100 people applied for this position: The pay is great, the benefits are second to none, and if you mess up-you get paid more to leave.

A 42 year old graduate of Administration Academy that has never taught or ran a school a day in his life? I guess the price is right.

Now we have to get a native of Mexico to run Philadelphia Schools? Are you kidding me? He is a product of Broad Superintendents Academy just like Arlene Ackerman. He also has ties to Chicago like Paul Vallas. Between the two of them they dug a 670 million dollar hole in the School District. Pedro when all the taxpayers like myself move out of Philly I hope your buddies in the corporate world can front you some money.I can't wait to get OUT!!

Arlene Ackerman was on the Board of the Broad Foundation while she was Superintendent in Philadelphia. This was kept secret from the community. We have been set-up. Students cannot be taught that we live in a democracy anymore!

Hite seems like the better choice. Martinez is the crony candidate. He has those far left pro-Obama connections so maybe they think that will help with getting help from the feds. Plus Paul Vallas was in Chicago before Martinez so they would be hiring someone who they might feel comfortable with since Vallas preceded him.

Neither candidate is remotely qualified, but as you say, at least the concept of teaching was breathed upon Hite at some point.

I may have agreed too soon: http://drwilliamhitejr-voteofnoconfidence.blogspot.com/

Apparently neither of them are remotely qualified. Pity the poor children of Philadelphia - and the American future, brought down by masses of uneducated and under-educated adults who will end up draining the system in every imaginable way.

Who are the other candidates who were interviewed? The public has the right to know!

They applied for a Public position as the chief officer of a "public school system. The Public has a right to know who the other candidates are. The SRC has a duty to us to do this in a transparent, above board manner.

All candidates need to go before the "scrutiny of the public" before anyone is appointed to the position of Superintendent.

The SRC held community engagement meetings and it was clear that what the people of Philadelphia wanted was: (1) An educator who has experience in the classroom and as a school level leader (2) A local person who has knowledge of our community (3) Someone who is NOT Affiliated with the Broad Academy.

That was said over and over and over again at every community meeting. But the SRC does the opposite and they do it in secrecy. It is a punch in the mouth to "the community."

Broad teaches "Churn." Churn is the creation of chaos within a school system in order to create a situation of weakness so the system can be privatized. That is what Paul Vallas and Arlene Ackerman did to us. What is happening here is a corporate raid on public education and it is not about the children. That is perfectly clear now.

Our SRC is committed to "the privatizers" and not our community and our children. They are politicians who now look like cronies for the privatizers.

I do not believe there were not better candidates who applied for the job or who were recommended for the job. It is impossible to understand the dynamics of schools and the dynamics of teaching and learning unless you have "Experience in Schools."

Without a doubt, the SRC was only interested in destabilizing the system. They never paid heed to public input. There aren't a lot of candidates who have any experience superintending massive public schools, nearly all of them subscribe to the proven ineffective Broad mentality and none of them have been teachers or even principals. I'm certain these two candidates were the only ones under any sort of genuine consideration, because they're among the small handful that exist.

Watch the salary attached to this job rival or exceed Ackerman's.

The Broad Institute advocates for privatizing public education in Urban school districts, bothe of these gentlemen are true belivers in the same philosophy 'public education is broken ,let the private sector fix it' I hope that there is a large turn out of Philadelphians at the meetings next week who are able to ask questions that are articualte and do not allow either of these candidates to give open answers ie not answer the question. The PFT and the principals union need to fill the hall with their members and give them the tools to ask the hard questions.

Both men were from Broad.
Why was it necessary to go outside of Philadelphia to select a Super? I am so sure that there were qualified from within to select from. I also agree that the public has a right to know who applied for the position. Make it public, the list. Sadly, the SRC was not honest with the public....They don't care about the children of Philadelphia. They are all apart of the problem, along with the Mayor and the Governor and they all should hang their heads in SHAME and Quit! Having public meetings, asking for public input, what a SHAM!
I still believe that the SDP is being set up to be shut down. Will the last person at 440 and all of the SDP schools close the windows, turn off the lights and lock the doors when they leave?

Both of these guys were hired from the same organization and mentality that spawned Ackerman and Vallas. There's a saying: "The definition of insanity if doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Fits this situation perfectly.

_____

It kind of does. They want the next candidate to continue what Vallas and Ackerman started: The dismantling of public education (and administrative responsibility) in Philadelphia.

It's good to see that so many people have seen through this little charade for the fraud that it is. There is no legitimate "search" just a hunt for a convenient yes-person who will happily carve up the district to politically-connected and wealthy organizations.

Looking at the background of both candidates, it must be a given that the district will be parceled out. That's the signature platform for the Broad Foundation. My question is this: How does it happen when we don't have the money? Did the SRC forget about this point?

You are kidding..right? An administrator with no teaching experience? Not a principal? Another product of the Broad Superintendents Academy? What is this place--a nomad Superintendent "training' school? Oh, please--this does not sound good. In fact--it's freakin' scary. Hite--from what I'm reading another Broad fugitive? It's like "seed pods" from "Body Snatchers". They just turn out Superintendents? Apparently these guys seem to be very full of themselves, so we won't have fellas with damaged egos. That's the best we can do, eh? No local flavor--at least-- to hopefully stop these outsiders from marching in with their "plans". We know what happens with "plans". It costs us millions. Which one does Rendell favor? Or Archie?..You know these backroom boys will be chiming in. Their law firms need to be fed money. Who'll do the most for them?
