The obvious favorite would be Deputy Superintendent Jane Woodburn, brought from Montgomery County, Maryland, schools by Morrison to be his second-in-command. She is certainly the most qualified on paper, but you never know with the idiot board.
This columnist says he wouldn't be surprised if NONE of the current candidates takes the job. I doubt it simply because the public wants somebody from already in the state to take over the job no matter how thankless it is. They feel betrayed Morrison used the sup job merely as a stepping stone to buy a national award and get a more prestigious job. The board will sweeten the pot beyond what Morrison got in order to get the person.
I thought this was good about Pedro Martinez:
Former Washoe deputy super Pedro Martinez is another finalist. He was a Morrison competitor three years ago. Morrison then hired him but forced him out a year later when he couldn’t score enough federal money, according to insiders. Martinez is now a deputy with the Gomorrah South school district, which just announced a spectacular (6 percent) one-year graduation rate increase. Sound familiar?
Martinez implemented a Morrison-style home visitation system down south. Clark County superintendent Dwight Jones is a soul brother of Morrison.
