Martinez’s familiarity with the county’s strategic learning plan, his ability to speak Spanish and his resume were deciding factors, board members said.
Martinez’s background includes serving as Chicago Public Schools’ chief financial officer under current U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan.
“I think that (Martinez) is now ready….” school board member Scott Kelley said. “He’s moved a couple of times, and he doesn’t want to move anymore. If he came here he’d be here for the long haul.”
What a bunch of shit. Pedro KNEW he wasn't going to get the Philly job, so he felt he had to take the first job offer out there.
As it has been four years since I was wrongfully dumped by these crooks, I was going to gradually reduce posting about the district at all when Heath departed figuring the board would actually pick somebody reasonably qualified and not a Broad graduate. Unfortunately, they failed on both counts.
It looks like there will be MORE material to write about my old district until Martinez leaves or is fired. Martinez is a laughingstock no matter where he wound up. He's worth keeping track of in this age of education "reform."
He is definitely a "rising star" in the world of Broad education "reform."

Yet another comment at this site describes the current atmosphere for teachers who are "lucky" enough to still have jobs working at WCSD:

Why does the media sit back and not take notice? Teachers have felt shunned and shut down for years. They have been bullying and pushing teachers around that even last week when there was a post on Facebook (made by another station) no one commented. They posted it again, trying to get "likes" and comments. No one will for fear of retribution. Teachers have been in the classrooms feeling more like Big Brother is after them. If you don't play their numbers game you are not part of their team. Teaching education and character to each individual student? -not truly a concern of the Green House, unless it can benefit their pocket. Make the teacher be the fall guy, play "yes man" to the parent - which ever whines the loudest, usually with money. This politics and high school cliques scenario that is going on in administration and the school board is not good for our students or our teachers. Keep hiring Administration without classroom experience and we'll keep getting more of these same results.
WCSD has long been a terrible place to work, especially for those who had no connections there.
Unless, of course, you were and are an administrator. Then you have it made no matter how inept you are or how crooked you are. You have a job for life even if you should belong in jail for your lawlessness and corruption.
