The Manchurian Candidate: Guess Who?

The other night I finally got around to watching the classic 1962 film, The Manchurian Candidate, starring Frank Sinatra, Angela Lansbury, and Laurence Harvey. It was a good movie, and it is just as timely now as it was during the Cold War era.

Unlike the film where there was one major villain played by Lansbury, there are numerous "elected" villains today who are polluting the political landscape to help the economic elites and neoliberals determined to destroy the country for ideological reasons. They have polluted both political parties to where there really is no significant difference between the two of them anymore on any issue of substance.

I don't have to tell you who the "Manchurian candidate" is now. He's doing the same dirty work a right-wing Republican would be doing but gets away with it because he has a "D" after his name:

Obama has been so conspicuously bad, that the Washington Post/ABC News Poll on 2 November 2011 found that 61% of American voters wanted a third-party candidate to run in the 2012 Presidential race. If Democrats nominate Obama, then a Ralph Nader type of candidacy will be likely, but if an authentic Democrat represents the Party instead, then the Republicans won’t stand a chance, not even with all their Wall Street cash. We need a candidate who won’t be dragging around Obama’s ugly baggage, which Republicans hate because he calls himself a Democrat, and which independents despise because he’s so obviously a hypocrite who stands with the aristocracy against the public. Moreover, a real Democrat as our standard-bearer could fire up the Democratic Party, but the fake Democrat Obama won’t be able to do that. Too many people now know the reality about this man. The Democratic Party needs an authentically Democratic candidate.

That piece was from last November, and I don't think I linked it here before. Barry hasn't gotten any better since that time, but whether he wins re-election all depends on how badly the Republicans want to "win" this November when they already somebody willing to do their dirty work.
