Why should public employees, despite having lower salaries in general than private employees, get "goodies" like pensions when I slave away and have a crummy little 401(k)? They should have an equally shitty retirement plan.

The neolibs are just laughing their asses off at stupid voters like those in San Jose, who want to make sure nobody goes into public service. They are using envy as a wedge against the one sector that is still heavily unionized.
And people will destroy this country because they are fucking goddamned morons.
By the way, many if not most California public service workers, especially teachers, do NOT pay into Social Security, or, if they did, they are screwed out of a big chunk of it through WEP/GPO. The average public pensioner gets only about 2k a month, not much different than the average SS payout.
I can't WAIT until they go after police, fire, and especially MILITARY pensions. Even Pinochet, the idol of the Friedmanites, didn't go that far.
