It's the Decline in Wages and Salaries, Stupid

I am glad this person saw the same thing I did when the New York Times had that bullshit article this past weekend about the alleged "high cost" of being unmarried, especially those who are unmarried mothers, as opposed to those wonderful married people.

Marital status itself has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether one is better off financially; it is the SECOND INCOME that makes the difference. However, it is true many, many married couples are suffering just as poorly as any single person in this economy thanks to a deteriorating wage base.

What the Times failed to mention is that married couples who are working class can be as badly off as the single mother profiled in the article. If employed at all, they may work long hours for low pay. Their difficult circumstances will make it more likely that they will not stay married for long, and their children will suffer from a variety of ills because their parents lack financial resources.

Scolding women for their alleged "lifestyle choices" isn't the way to handle a deteriorating job base. Frankly, those who peddle this garbage WANT people to suffer as a matter of ideology.
