It is finally winter break, and I for one am glad. Not that I have the money to do much. I can't stand the weather up here, though. It has been nonstop rain this week.

Thank goodness some parents have some sense and did not allow a parent to dictate what their kids could and could not do.
When I taught private school fifteen years ago, the worst offenders on holidays were Orthodox Jewish parents. We couldn't even do snowmen projects, which have nothing to do with Christmas but with winter, which happens to coincide with the holidays, because these parents had a twisted view of secular aspects of something that is actually a pagan holiday.
Jehovah's Witnesses, who don't celebrate holidays except I think Thanksgiving and don't celebrate birthdays, are generally easy to work with in arranging alternative activities for their children. Often the children stay home when there are class parties and such. But not so with the Orthodox Jewish parents. It is their way or the highway.
Fuck that shit. They can stay home, too, or go to their own private schools.
