People lie about it all the time. Who really gives a shit how often somebody has sex and with whom?
How can these "studies" be remotely accurate? People have to self-report, and they are simply not going to tell the truth about this topic. It is impossible to objectively measure this because it is based solely on what people say.
Men especially are horrible liars about sexuality. There is too much taboo involved if they tell the truth they aren't sexually active at all. Note how far more men report sexual activity past age 50 than women. Few men are out poaching much-younger women because very few of the much-younger women want them. This can only mean men are lying their asses off about their sex lives.
