There is precedent for amendments to become ratified decades after being proposed. I believe that is why there is a movement to continue with the ratification. Congress can simply get rid of the ridiculous "deadline" that was tacked onto the amendment way back in 1972.
The only thing I worry about now is the notion of "gender identity" will be used as a substitute for the very clear definition of "sex" in the amendment.
More about the time limit deal. Indeed, Congress DID extend the time limit by three years. There are a lot of good arguments for allowing the amendment to become law.
