Obituary:  Ja'Net DuBois, actress, known for her role in the seventies sitcom Good Times, died in her sleep.  She was 74 years old.


She was born Jeannette DuBois on August 5, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Amityville, New York on Long Island.

She began her career on Broadway, where she starred in a number of plays, including A Raisin In The Sun and Golden Boy with Louis Gossett Jr. and Sammy Davis Jr. in 1956.

Her first TV part came in 1951 as Loretta Allen on the series Love of Life.

Ja'net's role as Loretta made her the first African-American actress to have a regular serial role.

Her first film role was A Man Called Adam in 1966.

Another obituary:  Famed woman pro golfer Mickey Wright, 85, has died.  She was a fixture on the LPGA in the fifties and sixties until she decided to retire at the ancient age of 34:

Wright was born in San Diego on February 14, 1935 and turned pro in 1954 after spending one year at Stanford University.

She joined the LPGA Tour the following year and won her first title at the 1956 Jacksonville Open.

She clinched her first two majors in 1958 and went on to become a powerhouse in the game, earning entry to the Hall of Fame in 1976.
