Obituary:  Photographer Astrid Kirchherr, 81, known for her association with the Beatles, has died.  She was once engaged to early Beatle Stuart Sutcliffe.  She died on May13.

Another article:

Kirchherr is perhaps best known for her early photographs of the Beatles while the band played clubs in Hamburg during their early years pre-Beatlemania. The photographer is often cited as the source of the band's iconic mop-top haircut during their early years. She dated then-bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, giving him the haircut that later became associated with the band.

Following the photographer's death, Starr shared a photo of the band with Kirchherr. "God bless Astrid a beautiful human being And she took great photos peace and love," he wrote. The band's original drummer Pete Best also wrote a tribute to the photographer. Harrison's estate wrote that Kirchherr was loved by the whole family, including the Beatles guitarist.

Surprising obituary:  Sportscaster and one-time Miss America Phyllis George, 70, has died from complications of a blood disorder, leukemia.  She had been battling the disease for many years.  She passed away Thursday.

She was from Texas and competed in the pageant representing the state.  She won the title in 1971, and this helped her on her way in broadcasting, which she did for many years.  Sometimes she had to deal with criticism that she was just another pretty face and not serious at all.

George was first married to many-times married Robert Evans, who died a few months ago, and they split.  Later on she married KFC bigshot John Brown, and she was married to him for quite a few years.  Her fame and glamour helped catapult him to the Kentucky governorship.  They  divorced in 1998 and had two children.

From the linked article:

A native of Denton, Texas, George was a student at North Texas State University when she won the Miss America title that would change her life, leading to dozens of national appearances during her one-year reign before she settled in New York to try to break into television.

In 1972, she joined the cast of The NFL Today, co-hosting pregame shows before games and was one of the first women to have a national role in television sports. In early 1985, after her four years as Kentucky's first lady, she became a co-host with Bill Kurtis of CBS Morning News, a disappointing run for George that lasted only eight months.

After taking off about 10 years to raise the couple's two young children, Lincoln and Pamela, Brown would return to television and cable work, hosting interviews, shopping shows and promoting crafts.

She told The Courier Journal she was happy with the new roles and her new life in New York, where she lived in an apartment overlooking Central Park.

Another obit:  Actor Fred Willard, known for his comedy roles, died of natural causes at the age of 86.

And while Fred was famous for his cheeky dog show host in Best In Show as well as his Emmy-nominated roles on Modern Family and Everybody Loves Raymond – the latter of which earning him three Emmy nods – Willard had an illustrious television career dating all the way back to 1966.

Just some of the notable series in which he appeared over the decades include Get Smart, The Bob Newhart Show, Laverne & Shirley, The Love Boat, Golden Girls, Roseanne, Married... with Children, Lois & Clark, Mad About You and Ally McBeal.

Willard’s daughter Hope Mulbarger commemorated her father in a statement, saying, 'He kept moving, working and making us happy until the very end. We loved him so very much! We will miss him forever.'
