Saturday Reads and So Forth

The air outside is now nice with minimal haze.  The temperatures are now pleasant; no more excessive heat as we dive into fall.  September is usually the best month up here in southern Oregon.  Phoenix and Talent still have limited access, I believe, following the Almeda fire.  The Greenway, which I like to ride a lot, is closed from the baseball complex just south of Medford to the dog park up in Ashland.  There are still too many hazards in that section, including a pair of bridges that were damaged.

As I get older, the Greenway is a convenience and a blessing since few cars are encountered.  I don't really want to go the backroads like I used to do as a young person, especially since I don't have one of those flashing lights to mount on the back of my bike to make me more visible to motorists.

The New York Times has a complete obituary of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died yesterday of pancreatic cancer at the age of 87.  Her death is now a big political football, with intense interest on both sides.

Trump says he plans to nominate a woman to the high court, but it is iffy if there will be a vote on any selection before inauguration day.

Ginsburg was a towering figure--despite her diminutive height--in the area of women's rights.  She will be missed by millions of people.  Bill Clinton had appointed her to the high court back in around 1993.
