Obituary:  Noted NASCAR driver Bobby East, 37, was tragically murdered at a California gas station by a homeless man, who was later killed by a SWAT team.

Snip:

East was fueling up in Westminster on Wednesday when he was stabbed to death in the chest. East was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Days later, police later shot and killed Trent William Millsap, 27, a homeless man on parole, who allegedly stabbed the three-time US Auto Club (USAC) champ, in a SWAT raid, according to law enforcement sources, TMZ reports.

A SWAT team executed a search warrant at an apartment in nearby Anaheim on Friday. Millsap was shot and killed on the scene as the police were trying to arrest him. The Orange County DA is investigating the shooting.

'The victim was found on the ground suffering from a serious stab wound to the chest area,' Westminister Police said in a statement regarding East's murder. 'Officers attempted life saving measures until OCFA paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local trauma center, where the victim succumbed to his injury.'

Another obit:  Mark Fleischman, owner of the famed Studio 54 of the 1970s notoriety, managed to con a doctor or his family managed to con a doctor to kill him, as the cause of his death the other day was "assisted suicide."

The 82-year-old was quoted as saying since he was suffering from an undisclosed illness, he didn't want to go on suffering.  Instead of just killing himself, he decided to get somebody else to do the deed.

As you can tell, I think "assisted suicide" is a bunch of bullshit.  Not as the cause of death in his case, but as a general principle.  If you want to kill yourself, fine, but don't ask somebody else to help you do the dirty work.  It is an idea that is too easily abused in the case of the disabled or the elderly.
