Obituary: Robert Blake

One-time child actor and one-time television and movie star (Barertta, In Cold Blood) Robert Blake, 89, finally died after succumbing to heart disease.  He is living proof that the good indeed die young.  Some twenty years ago he was acquitted of murdering his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, even though it was clear he did it.  He had the motive, and that was custody of the daughter they had.   His adult daughter later raised the child.

The DM headline is a total fabrication.  There was no hit man involved in Bakley's death.  Blake did try to get somebody else to do the job and he was charged with it, but he couldn't get anybody to do the job.  So he did the dirty work himself, shooting her outside a restaurant where they had dinner.  He was seen having a gun.

If there was any good that came out of the acquittal, it is that Blake never was able to resume his acting career again, the same as O.J. Simpson.  He became a pariah.  He ended up doing a series of menial jobs including mucking stalls.

It didn't matter Bakley's background--what mattered is Blake killed her.

Snip:

Blake got his start in Hollywood at a young age, appearing in Our Gang at just the age of 5.

As an adult, he took on roles in a number of classic movies before becoming known as Baretta on television, for which he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1977.

Fans would also spot him regularly on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, where he was a recurring guest who appeared in a number of skits with his host friend.
