Preakness 2023 Results

National Treasure, trained by Bob Baffert, barely edged out Blazing Sevens to win the 148th Preakness Stakes in an exciting finish. National Treasure won by a head.  Derby winner Mage finished third.   It was a small field, only seven starters, and a good, clean race.

It was bittersweet for Baffert because he lost a horse earlier in the day due to injury, which of course the PETA nutters were out in full force with their criticism, with their cynical attempt to raise more money in their insane quest to abolish all animal domestication.   It is hard to watch a horse being injured, especially fatally, but I have no sympathy for those animal "rights" assholes.  Baffert was fighting back the tears when interviewed following the Preakness.

A lot of people hate Bob Baffert, and he has gotten into some trouble with racing officials in recent times, but unlike most of his critics I actually met him and engaged with some small talk with him when he visited the Truckee Meadows in Nevada back in 2008.  I have written about it on this blog.

Jockey Johnny Velazquez has won his first Preakness in many tries.  Now he can say he has won at least one of each of the Classic races.
