Miscellaneous News.

I just returned from the final performance of this year's Artown, which featured the terrific Harlem Gospel Choir.

It sure didn't take the paper long to put my name in:

Susan Nunes of Reno said she’s attended nearly all of the music events.

“I liked the Food for the Soul probably the best,” she said. “I really liked the Preservation Jazz Band. I like to hear different types of music. I like gospel music.”

Without official numbers available, Artown Executive Director Beth Macmillan said this year’s attendance would be close to the 2007 record of 350,000.

“It’s been fabulous, it’s been a really great season,” she said.

The choir's site is here.

One of the Best Things

about the Artown events is the "Food for the Soul" concerts held on Wednesday nights during the month of July at Wingfield Park. I could have listened all night to the New Orleans traditional jazz band, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, which was just terrific. They played for over an hour and a half to an audience of a couple of thousand.

I try to go to as many concerts during Artown as possible. Some of the acts are local, and some of them are nationally or internationally known. But they're all worthwhile.

Miscellaneous News.

Since I can't afford to go any distance right now, I will be here through the month of July attending many Artown events. The festival starts tomorrow.

Last year I didn't attend many events because I was out of the country a good part of the month and stayed in Oregon for an additional week or so.

Unless I somehow get money before the hearing in mid-August, I am stuck to staying here.
