A Medford, Oregon, pair has been held in connection with the Craiglist hoax, and it is not an April Fool's joke:

Police on Monday arrested a Medford couple who allegedly used hoax postings on Craigslist to cover up their own thefts from a rural Jacksonville residence later inundated by Craigslist readers who thought the house's contents were free pickings for the taking.

Amber D. Herbert, 28, and Brandon D. Herbert, 29, were taken into custody on burglary, theft and computer crime charges involving the Craigslist hoax that drew international attention and cost the victim several thousand dollars, authorities said.

The Herberts owned the computer used to post two Craigslist messages March 22 that invited readers to help themselves to what was purported to be abandoned belongings, including a horse, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

But it was just a ruse to cover the Herberts' own thefts of horse saddles and other items from a garage on the Sterling Creek Road property a few days earlier, Jackson County sheriff's Sgt. Colin Fagan said.

I hope they get the book thrown at them.

There is more here.

Industries which use animals in any kind of capacity, whether for food, entertainment, show, clothing, or anything else should realize that by making any deals with the animal rights groups, they are making deals with the devil.

Animal "rights" groups like PETA simply don't care about making nice. Any deals with industry is just a short-term strategy in their longterm goal of abolishing the domestication of all animals because of a nutty ideology.

Animal rights groups are NOT the same as animal welfare organizations or humane societies. Their agenda is TOTALLY different.

Investigators have tracked down a computer possibly linked to the Craigslist hoax:

Jackson County sheriff's detectives contacted the computer's owner earlier this week. The person voluntarily handed over the computer to be examined by Jackson County sheriff's Detective Lt. Rich Fogarty.

"We have not named a suspect in this case," Fogarty said. "It is still too early in the investigation."

Fogarty said it could take more than a day to sift through the computer's hard drive for useful information.

In addition, the sheriff's office subpoenaed Craigslist to obtain the IP address of the user who posted the fake ads Saturday. Sheriff's officials are waiting for that information to arrive. Meanwhile, they are pursuing other leads.

I would like to know why Hollywood thinks it is so wonderful to glorify a pair of pimps , the wife now dead and the husband now a fugitive in South America, when there are so many other subjects out there?

I suppose though, it's nice to have a film crew in town and to see a couple of a major movie actors as a bonus.

Craigslist will cooperate with southern Oregon police officials in tracking down the asshole who ran the bogus ad, causing a Jacksonville, Oregon, to lose most of his property.

"Misuse of Craigslist for illegal purposes is absolutely unacceptable to us, and we look forward to assisting law enforcement in their efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice," Buckmaster wrote in an e-mail to the Mail Tribune.

"Craigslist is an extremely unwise choice for committing crimes, since criminals inevitably leave an electronic trail to themselves that law enforcement officers can follow."

The Salisburys lost ladders, tools and other possessions worth thousands of dollars after two Craigslist ads claimed the owner of a home in the 7900 block of Sterling Creek Road outside Jacksonville was forced to leave the area suddenly and that his belongings, including a horse, were free for the taking, said Jackson County sheriff's officials.

Robert Salisbury, an independent contractor, learned of the hoax when a woman who was interested in claiming his horse phoned him to verify whether the ads were legitimate. He arrived at his property to find dozens of people rifling through his house and barn and driving off with his possessions.

"They literally trashed the barn," he said. "It looks like a tornado went through."

Though he tried to stop people from taking his things, several people waved a printout of the Craigslist ad at him and said they had a right, he said.

How in the hell do people think they have the right to pilfer somebody's property? First of all, who in the hell advertises something on the internet that things belonging to somebody else are free for the taking?

What kind of idiot believes this stuff?

I am sure Associated Press got hold of this local story of a baby being born on a lawn yesterday morning, which of course was Easter:

Reno natives Nick and Julia Smith had planned to take their 20-month old son, Adian, on an Easter egg hunt Sunday morning, but instead, Julia went into labor with their second child.

As they were leaving for the hospital and walking across the grass of the Silver Lake Apartments, Julia informed Nick it was too late and the baby was crowning.

Senators Brownback and Kennedy hope to curb eugenic abortions with a bill they have sponsored that would provide legal assurance to prospective parents of information that is complete and informed about disabilities such as Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, and other disabilities so that they don't feel they are pressured into getting abortions.

I don't have any objection to this. It is rather disturbing when prospective parents do opt for abortion because they are afraid of having kids with disabilities.

Down syndrome and even cystic fibrosis are not the death sentences they once were. Down syndrome children can live well into middle age, as opposed to just a couple of decades ago, when average life expectancy was only 25. It is not unheard of for CF children to live well into their twenties and thirties (average is 36.8 years in the U.S.) when in times past they rarely made it past their teens (fifty years ago, the average life expectancy for CF infants was only 6 months).
