to miss the mess in Arizona last night. Each candidate tried to out-asshole the other candidates by vilifying who is not rich enough to be on their one-percent donor list.
ALL of our candidates are so unfit, yet we have utterly no alternative to this dire state of affairs.
No, I don't intend to run for president. Are you kidding, with my background? The media would have a field day with my alleged shortcomings.

The Issue is Obama
The issue is not whether the GOP can come up with anybody better than those who are running for the nomination but why the Democrats could not do better with anybody else but Obama.
Why can't Democrats simply ditch this utter failure of a president? He's just as Republican as those who are running on the alleged "other side of the aisle."
Sneering at the buffoonery of the current GOP field just avoids the obvious issue.
The election will be about jobs, the economy, and what Obama has done about it.
Period.
We could be electing a fascist next year or some muddle of the road like Mitt. It will be because the Democrats screwed up so badly in 2008 with the nomination of Obama.

The GOP Future--Whatever It Is
I'd disregard all but two of those people Cillizza's list, and that's Jindal and Romney. I'd put Huckabee on the list instead of the mostly no-names.
Now That
the snow has been cleared off my satellite dish, I am able to watch and record the two slugfests of last night. Right now it's the GOP version. I have to say their candidates are stronger than three of the four remaining Democratic ones.
Yes, it is very possible John McCain could return from the political dead, win New Hampshire, and actually get the nomination, despite the fact Republicans are truly fed up with their slate this year. ALL of them have problems, but hell, our dictator got tons of votes and managed to steal two elections, so that doesn't mean anything.
McCain, though, because of his low-key style when his temper doesn't flare up and because of the media loving him when he gave them so much access back in 2000, could be the nominee and be very tough to beat in November. He will be impossible to beat if the currently unvetted Barack Obama somehow gets the nomination (though I really doubt it). Obama would lose to every single one of the GOP candidates, for with all of the base's squawking about the different candidates, they will still vote GOP. They won't vote for Obama for a variety of reasons besides his racial/ethnic/religious background. McCain, for example, will look good by contrast. He's old as the hills, but there is a reassuring demeanor about him masking his hard-right beliefs. He's been peddled as a moderate, which he isn't, thanks to the media whores like Russert, Mike Wallace, and others. The next toughest candidate of the GOP is Huckabee, despite all of HIS problems. He's the GOP's version of Bill Clinton or John Edwards, and he's very damned savvy. I would not be surprised if he and McCain wind up on the same ticket.
If that happens we Dems are in deep shit if we pick an unelectable.
Edwards would stack up extremely well against any of their candidates, but you know as well as I do, he has the media as the main opponent. It will be interesting to see how this whole mess of a primary campaign shakes out.
