The media are continuing to try to find some kind of Watergate-style wrongdoing by Obama's "associates" in order to taint Obama.

We who have followed and criticized Obama KNEW this was coming. Now the Republicans, who really should be in the margins of our political system, are going to do everything in their power to hamstring him because of Obama's Illinois background. This was one of the reasons I was so dead set against Obama being our nominee. If he allows Fitzgerald to remain in his U.S. attorney's seat, he's going to regret it.

I hope Bill and Hillary Clinton are giving him so advice on this.

Meanwhile, Blago hangs in, saying he will be vindicated.

Perhaps so, but I think he should call the fascists' bluff and resign, get Pat Quinn to take his job, and Quinn can appoint Obama's successor. I have a great candidate to replace Obama: the woman whose political back he stabbed, Alice Palmer.

This would nip in the bud the GOP plot to steal two seats while abusing the judicial system to that end.

I wouldn't be surprised if the GOP had not only fanned but even started the silly tale about Sarah Palin and her daugther.

The person who created the hoax at the Daily Kos, Arc XIX, had just three posts to his or her name, and the last one before this weekend's final two was in 2005. Reading the posts it is easy to surmise this was a well-planned hoax.

And yes, the fact Obama was late in the condemnation actually made him look worse and, as Cannon notes, he only referred to children being off-limits to smears.

It is okay to smear adults, of course. He is the absolute master at that.

No matter the origin of the rumors, the onus is on Obama.
