Susan Boyle fears her "career" will go bust even though it hasn't actually begun.

The "dance" group she lost to is utterly without any ability whatsoever. Britain is definitely starved for talent.

The destruction of GM, especially by Obama, is the most outrageous assault on working people ever committed in this country:

This is a contemptible lie. The bankruptcy of GM will only accelerate the process of deindustrialization, which has been carried out by the ruling elite over the last three decades as it increasingly turned to financial speculation to amass its vast fortunes.

In the Obama administration, the American ruling class has found its most ruthless representative, led by a Democratic president who has gone even further than his Republican predecessor in the assault on the working class. While handing over trillions in public assets to cover the bad gambling debts of the financial elite, it demands unending “sacrifice” from workers. The destruction of the jobs and living standards of GM and Chrysler workers will now be used to set a precedent for sweeping attacks on every section of the working class.

From the beginning, the White House has relied on the United Auto Workers to block any resistance by workers. The UAW—which emerged seven decades ago in the bitter sit-down strikes against the exploitation of GM workers—has been complicit in returning auto workers to conditions not seen since the 1930s. In return for functioning as a corporate-government overseer, the proprietors of this organization are receiving billions of dollars in shares and a 17.5 percent stake in the “New GM.”

I don't see ANY economic recovery on the horizon. It is all fixable, but our on-the-take politicians refuse to have the will needed to fix our structural economic problems.

This is just so unbelievably outrageous I had to post the link here:

When the sharp pain shooting through Lisa Strong's back got worse, she thought it was another kidney stone and expected the discomfort to pass. This time was different.

Through a series of mistakes, miscommunications and misdiagnoses, she wound up having her arms and legs amputated. She sued the doctors, who essentially blamed one another for what everyone involved agrees were profound errors.

Everyone except the jury that ruled against Strong.

The verdict came in the face of such overwhelming evidence that in a rare move, the judge tossed out the jury's decision and ordered a new trial.

Good for the judge. This was obvious medical malpractice.

Diversity trumps average-looking people.

But she will do okay with recording contracts and all. She appeared to crack under the pressure of newfound celebrity:

For weeks she seemed to be a shoo-in for victory. To see a middle-aged woman from a small town — who lives alone with her cat, Pebbles, and seemed at first to be almost comically awkward — open her mouth to reveal such a beautiful voice was revelatory and inspiring. Celebrities like Demi Moore said she they were rooting for her.

But in recent days there were worries that Ms. Boyle — who is said to have suffered slight brain damage when she was deprived of oxygen at birth, and is so unworldly that she has no computer — was cracking under all the pressure. Various tabloid reports had her paralyzed with nerves, lashing out at reporters and swearing uncharitably about her competitors. She was said to be a packed suitcase away from quitting the competition and going back home, to the town of Blackburn in Scotland.

The town, appropriately enough, is named "Winner."

Many same-sex marriage advocates are saying the lawsuit filed by Boies and Olson is not the way to go, for they feel it would lose. No doubt that is true; few courts will go anywhere near the issue.

Why Is It

such a big deal an older woman who looks like an average person, not anorexic with breast implants and God knows how much other surgery, happens to have talent? What do looks have to do with talent and vice versa anyway?

Boyle can sing, but to me it is remarkable people are making a big deal out of it. There are lots of talented people of all ages and in all economic classes. There are talented, good-looking young people who remain talented long after the wrinkles, the weight, and the cellulite set in.
