The Education Wars: Walmart and DPS

Wal-Mart, whose owners are among the billionaire venture "philanthropists" trying to destroy American public education, is wrapping its dirty tentacles around the ailing Detroit Public Schools system via "job training" programs:

The training program was kicked off today at assemblies held at Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men and at Western International High.

Detroit International Academy for Women and Henry Ford High will also participate.

Students will get 11 weeks of job-readiness training during the school day and 10 high school credits for the class and work experience.

Sean Vann, principal at Douglass, said 30 students at that school will get jobs at Walmart. He said the program will allow students an opportunity to earn money and to be exposed to people from different cultures - since all of the stores are in the suburbs.

Let's see...there are tens of thousands of adult workers who are unemployed, yet Wal-Mart wants to go the cheapest route possible.

H1N1

While everybody in the country is worried they will come down sick with the H1N1 illness, Wal-Mart doesn't seem to mind at all its workers are frequently coming to work ill and thus spreading the illness far and wide.

After all, these workers are afraid they will lose money or even their jobs if they do the right thing. With ten or twenty people lined up to take their jobs, Wal-Mart can afford to treat them like dirt.

After piles of criticism, Wal-Mart is revamping its health insurance program so that more employees are covered.
