No Surprise Though the Author Misses the Point Entirely

When you realize many of the founders of the "new right" as it was known in the 1960s and 1970s were once "leftist" radicals, it is not surprising that they and their ideological descendants would resort to Stalinist tactics to further their right-wing agenda.

On top of that are the Koch brothers, whose father had business ties to the old Soviet Union and was later one of the founders, I believe, of the John Birth Society.

The author of the linked post completely misses the ball. What is going on now has nothing to do with Henry Wallace or the Communist Party 60 or 70 years ago or can even be compared to it. There wasn't the money behind the CP, unlike the Tea Party groups and all of the think tanks bought and paid for by the Kochs and other billionaires.

It May Be Too Soon to Write the GOP's Obituary

After all, the GOP came back after Watergate and other scandals. Even if the party were to die, that's not necessarily a good thing for the American people because the Democrats are increasingly corrupt thanks to the nomination and election of a complete fraud who got elected to the White House in 2008.

My concern has ALWAYS been with Obama rather than the batshit crazies of the GOP; he simply can't be trusted. He's proven that with education policy, and his "grand bargain" bullshit will just about force me out of the party for good.

The most likely scenario if the GOP were to die off would be the Democratic Party would be split, and the neolibs controlling it would simply take the place of the former GOP.

Judis:

But Boehner was forced to adopt the more extreme strategy. Norquist blames Cruz. “Boehner had a strategy,” Norquist told me, “but Ted Cruz blew it up.” That is, however, giving Cruz too much credit (or blame) for the result. Cruz did help convince House Republicans that if they linked passage of a continuing resolution to repealing Obamacare, he could get the votes in the Senate to follow suit. But Cruz was following a script that had been developed earlier. What has happened over the last two months, leading to the shutdown, and political paralysis in Washington, is the result of deeper factors that have put Norquist’s entire “center-right” strategy in jeopardy.

There really is no political "center" in Washington--there is a right wing and a far right or fascistic wing.

No Matter

how the radical right, wrongly called "conservatives," try to claim our dictator has departed from conservative "principles," the reality is he is the very embodiment of them.

Greed, white-collar crime, suppressing dissent, giving handouts to the financial elite while screwing everybody else, those are the hallmarks of "conservativism."

Just Because

the radical right has had some "setbacks" in recent times, don't for a minute believe they are going to give up everything they have clawed, lied, cheated, and stole in order to have attained power.

Add the

Arlington Group to the list of far right organizations we need to keep an eye on, like CNP and the Wednesday Group.

The Reason the "Conservative" Movement

was bound to fail was because its ideology is corrupt at its core.

Moreover, social Darwinism had already been discredited with the Great Depression. This country had already seen the fruit of "conserativism" in the early twentieth century, which was the era of the robber barons. The only difference between then and now is the increased power of the theocrats, but the theocrats are less about religion and more about political power anyway.

It wasn't going to work. Besides, the "movement" never represented anywhere near a majority of voters. That's why the radical right had to resort to election fraud, redistricting, and other schemes to try and retain power.
