Bill Christine

of the L.A. Times weighs in on yesterday's Derby. (Blogger would not let me directly link to the article, so you will have to click it on from the homepage.)

Bill Christine, like Andrew Beyer, has been writing about horse racing for decades, and he should know better than to pen garbage like this:

"A son of Distorted Humor and Belle's Good Cide, a family that could complete the Derby distance only if it traveled by cab..."

What the fuck is this?

Until yesterday, Distorted Humor wasn't a household name, but he is a son of Forty Niner, who was second to Winning Colors in the 1988 Kentucky Derby and won the 1988 Travers, which is the same distance as the Derby. Forty NIner now lives in Japan, where he is a top sire. Belle's Good Cide is a daughter of Slewicide, who in turn is a son of Seattle Slew, a horse who could get ANY distance as we all know and sired many runners who could.

So Bill, please quit the garbage that Funny Cide's pedigree is really nothing, that Funny Cide is a nothing horse who happened to beat a something horse who lost merely because he had a bruised foot.

It's almost as if Karl Rove has been giving the sportswriters talking points. They are all saying the same nonsense.
