Thanks to a Loophole
in California law, Bustamante is starting to collect major bucks from big donors. Republicans can't complain because this is legal. The notion it's money laundering is laughable. Any squawks from Republicans are due to Bustamante being the front runner as the replacement candidate for governor.
Since Bustamante and McClintock (the latter claiming he hasn't heard of the loophole) have pre-existing campaign committees, none of the other candidates for governor can take advantage of it. Davis is not considered a candidate, so he is not affected by the campaign limits.
